Summary: My original went dead. Garmin doesn't make these anymore so finding one in this conditions for the price was awesome. I have this custom installed on my truck. I'm glad this was available. I didn't want to have to recustomize my truck for a different model. Thanks.
Summary: Great, great, great... All I can say quickly... I use in a big truck - it's very customizable so I could add all inspection stations, low clearance bridges warning, all truck stops... You name it - you can put it. I wish Garmin used this unit to create real tracker's GPS instead a "dezl 560" I don't like the size, don't like the "new ugly display", will never buy it... Again - Nuvi 5000 does great job for me as commercial driver.
Summary: The primary reasons for purchasing the nuvi 5000 were to address a significant blind spot when reversing in our otherwise excellent 2010 Honda Accord Coupe. The 5000 was one of the few GPS sysems that had a video input so that I could incorporate a rear view camera, and also satisfy my wife's recently acquired taste for navigation assistance rather than relying on a map!
Garmin 5000 Works Great with 5 inch display and automatic traffic rerouting
4 May 2011
Summary: I love this GPS Receiver. It has the big 5 inch screen which is easy to read especially for an older person like me. It has traffic reports and often reroutes me around traffic. It has an automatic shutoff in that it has no battery to worry about, so it goes off when I turn off the ignition. Extremely reliable and easy to interface into. The only problem I have is updating the maps through Garmin.
Summary: After having purchased 3 of these Nuvi 5000's, I'm impressed that it just simply works. Big screen, great features (bluetooth, nah) and it does what it says it's supposed to do. Bought one for a friend's daughter who has dropped it about 50 times in the house, no guess on how many times at college... AND, it still works. Durable, not buggy like other models I've used and pretty cheap for a 5.2 inch screen.
Summary: I bought this from Amazon to replace a Magellan unit that was 5" diag. also a few months ago. The Magellan unit was horrible. This unit is big and clear with adjustable detail on the map. The Garmin unit has nice clear spoken directions that are announced well in advance of the turn. The unit activates quickly and updates rapidly as you travel along. This unit is better than the Magellan unit at refreshing the screen accurately as you travel.
Summary: Length:: 2:43 Mins Here is a video review of Nuvi 5000 Boot up time and how the rear view camera function works with this. I did not focus on the other aspects of this GPS as a lot of written about this already here. I have used a Boyo VTL 425 camera with this , ultra slim, license mounted and I am very happy with the performance of this camera. I ordered a 3 Pole A/V cable from Ebay for the rear view camera input, however the pin would not go inside the unit.
Summary: Big screen GPS, that has a few extras. I travel a lot, with this unit I simply input the stops I need to make, and it will select the best route, and place them in order. The detour selection is a life saver, I have the added option of life-time traffic another time saver. It is not the newest GPS out there but I had newer ones that just have too many features that I'll not use, so why pay for them.
Summary: PRO: I've had my 5000 for almost two years now. It does announce street names and is very bright and easily read. It has an audio out, video in, accepts an external antenna and has a slot for an SD card (use an 8GB and put my music on it). CON: A little slow in rerouting. Bulky and comes without a battery. RESULT: I recently tried the 1490T. Too basic. Had bluetooth only for phone. No external inputs/outputs or SD slot.
