Summary: Have had one of these for 7 years until one day it just decided to die. Found a used one and it works great. Not to many of these out there where you can plug in a backup camera. Hope this one will last 7 years.
Summary: My original went dead. Garmin doesn't make these anymore so finding one in this conditions for the price was awesome. I have this custom installed on my truck. I'm glad this was available. I didn't want to have to recustomize my truck for a different model. Thanks.
Summary: After having purchased 3 of these Nuvi 5000's, I'm impressed that it just simply works. Big screen, great features (bluetooth, nah) and it does what it says it's supposed to do. Bought one for a friend's daughter who has dropped it about 50 times in the house, no guess on how many times at college... AND, it still works. Durable, not buggy like other models I've used and pretty cheap for a 5.2 inch screen.
Summary: I bought this from Amazon to replace a Magellan unit that was 5" diag. also a few months ago. The Magellan unit was horrible. This unit is big and clear with adjustable detail on the map. The Garmin unit has nice clear spoken directions that are announced well in advance of the turn. The unit activates quickly and updates rapidly as you travel along. This unit is better than the Magellan unit at refreshing the screen accurately as you travel.

Provides a Superior Non-Zooming Viewing Perspective
10 September 2009
Summary: The nuvi 5000 Provides a superior viewing perspective for street navigation without continuously having to zoom in and out!! This is the most basic function of a GPS unit yet it is seldom discussed. Go figure! The 800*480 quality display shows more surrounding streets and their names. For the first time I can see how to navigate out of a neighborhood which has been designed to be difficult to just pass-thru. I don't need a battery for in-car use only.
Summary: I regularly ride in a friend's shiny new 2009 Porsche and I have to say, their GPS sucks by comparison! You'd think a $100k+ sports car would have a killer GPS -- NOT! The maps were sparse, the colors muted, the speech barely audible and the user interface convoluted and unintuitive. Now I know Porsche's primary concern is the car, not the GPS, but for a top dollar luxury product, you'd think their GPS would be equally cutting edge. I honestly prefer my Garmin Nuvi 5000.
Summary: It does not have truck routes built in like the garmin rep ashured me that it did. However the huge screean is great for Smaller R.V's and truck to see with but dont plan on using it to route you correctly in the NE if you have an oversized rig at all.... First day in NYC it tried it's darndest to make me go down a road with 7 foot clearence in a 13 foot tall R.V. nice work Garming rep.......
Summary: This is one of the greatest tools I have bought for my truck since I purchased the 60 dollar rand mcnally truck map. While this does NOT include truck routing, every road that I need to take is listed for me so I can check my map book and see if any of the roads are restricted. I would pay twice as much for this Garmin. The big screen makes it easy for me to see both day and night.
