Summary: Have had one of these for 7 years until one day it just decided to die. Found a used one and it works great. Not to many of these out there where you can plug in a backup camera. Hope this one will last 7 years.
Display was so dim it could not be seen in daylight
P Patch, Amazon

Summary: Nuvi came without any suction cup to attach it. The display even when turn up to 100% was NOT readable, it was so DIM that in day light hardly make out that the display was turned on.Which makes the unit completely useless for any driving application. When Nuvi was Plugged in to power supply unit made loud humming noise. Returned it for refund.
Summary: My original went dead. Garmin doesn't make these anymore so finding one in this conditions for the price was awesome. I have this custom installed on my truck. I'm glad this was available. I didn't want to have to recustomize my truck for a different model. Thanks.
Summary: Bought this to replace a Lowrance...ooppss....bad choice - weak antennas in this Garmin series means plunking down $30 for an external antenna just to get a signal. No battery.....and now I am attempting my second map update in 2 years....and it says NOPE - not enough space on device. So much for lifetime map updates. Hey Garmin, if I wanted music on my GPS, I would have bought an iPod (oh, wait, I did....so why do I need music on my GPS - right, I don't).
Summary: After having purchased 3 of these Nuvi 5000's, I'm impressed that it just simply works. Big screen, great features (bluetooth, nah) and it does what it says it's supposed to do. Bought one for a friend's daughter who has dropped it about 50 times in the house, no guess on how many times at college... AND, it still works. Durable, not buggy like other models I've used and pretty cheap for a 5.2 inch screen.
Summary: I bought this from Amazon to replace a Magellan unit that was 5" diag. also a few months ago. The Magellan unit was horrible. This unit is big and clear with adjustable detail on the map. The Garmin unit has nice clear spoken directions that are announced well in advance of the turn. The unit activates quickly and updates rapidly as you travel along. This unit is better than the Magellan unit at refreshing the screen accurately as you travel.
Summary: For the price, it's a great unit --- tried it out over the Thanksgivivng holiday across 3 states. Lost the satellites once on I-95, and had to restart the unit, but it found the route already entered and continued on. If you don't need to 'hand hold' & walk with the unit [I have one for that], the lack of a rechargeable battery is fine. Also have a separate blue tooth, so that isn't needed. It returned "Home" without any loss of signal.
Summary: The nuvi5000 works great. The thing that I'm not happy with is that it does not have an internal battery. After trying everything that I could think of to turn it on,when out of the cradle, I called garmin and was told about there being no internal battery. If I had known that, I would not have ordered it. I also have a nuvi 750. The 750 is great, I can have pictures and mp3 files to carry wherever I go. This doesn't work with the 5000.
Summary: It works well. I did not realize that it does not have an internal battery and that Garmin discontinued selling this product. However they do support it and I was able update the software and map. You can only use it while plugged in a car. You cannot use it by plugging it to your computer.
