Summary: My original went dead. Garmin doesn't make these anymore so finding one in this conditions for the price was awesome. I have this custom installed on my truck. I'm glad this was available. I didn't want to have to recustomize my truck for a different model. Thanks.
Summary: Great, great, great... All I can say quickly... I use in a big truck - it's very customizable so I could add all inspection stations, low clearance bridges warning, all truck stops... You name it - you can put it. I wish Garmin used this unit to create real tracker's GPS instead a "dezl 560" I don't like the size, don't like the "new ugly display", will never buy it... Again - Nuvi 5000 does great job for me as commercial driver.
Summary: Bought this to replace a Lowrance...ooppss....bad choice - weak antennas in this Garmin series means plunking down $30 for an external antenna just to get a signal. No battery.....and now I am attempting my second map update in 2 years....and it says NOPE - not enough space on device. So much for lifetime map updates. Hey Garmin, if I wanted music on my GPS, I would have bought an iPod (oh, wait, I did....so why do I need music on my GPS - right, I don't).
Great product, if you need a Garmin with a/v input
8 August 2011
Summary: This is the only Garmin that supports an A/V input (e.g. a rear view camera). I wanted a GPS that can support a rear view camera and I since I have all the latest Garmin Maps for my country this is the ideal GPS for me. Pros: - Big Screen - A/V input - Easy to use and install new maps Cons: - No battery - has to be plugged in to external power - thicker and heavier than newer models with same screen size
Summary: bought this GPS for two main reasons :GPS and Rearview camera display capability. There is a big disadvantage of using GPS unit without inside battery:When i turn on the ignition to start the car i have to wait about 1.5 min for GPS unit to be activated to actually see rear view from back camera. Not like on original ,factory installed rearview cameras and GPS, witch does shows the rear view at any time in reverse. The size of display is perfect.
Summary: The primary reasons for purchasing the nuvi 5000 were to address a significant blind spot when reversing in our otherwise excellent 2010 Honda Accord Coupe. The 5000 was one of the few GPS sysems that had a video input so that I could incorporate a rear view camera, and also satisfy my wife's recently acquired taste for navigation assistance rather than relying on a map!
Garmin 5000 Works Great with 5 inch display and automatic traffic rerouting
4 May 2011
Summary: I love this GPS Receiver. It has the big 5 inch screen which is easy to read especially for an older person like me. It has traffic reports and often reroutes me around traffic. It has an automatic shutoff in that it has no battery to worry about, so it goes off when I turn off the ignition. Extremely reliable and easy to interface into. The only problem I have is updating the maps through Garmin.
Summary: Bought this model for larger screen and rear view hook camera up. The hook up to a Boyo camera was very difficult, as the Boyo plug in different from the female input on the nuvi. Eventually had to craft a plug. Also, the Garmin has to go through all its warm up before it will let the rear view camera to get onto the screen. Takes too long. Somewhat disappointing, but not terrible.
