Excerpt: Ordered it online and it was shipped to store. Picked it up without checking the box. When I got it home I noticed that the box had been opened before. The garmin was loose in the box. Tried to use it anyway but the thing was lost. Couldn't find anything. It had obviously been returned before. I returned it and got my money but I do not live close to the store so quite a bit of driving was involved.
Excerpt: We were going to a frequently visited local spot and decided to try out the Garmin 40LM GPS. We were travelling on a local road and know directions well (50 yrs) and Garmin said to turn right on route 417 west. we turned right of course, knowing where we were, but knew we were going on state route 417 in an easterly direction. Luckily we were not travelling in an unknown area. Not sure we can count on the reliability of this unit.
Pros: Large Screen, Quick Navigation, Quick Signal, Simple Controls
Summary: The reason I need a GPS because the FREE GPS APP in iphone can't guide me to my destination. This Garmin GPS unit sells for $140, but it only performance $10 better than a free APP. The biggest pain for this GPS is you will never find a Place Of Interest in your destination, and this crap only can find the POI near your location.
Excerpt: I was a TomTom user for a number of years, so am familiar with GPS usage. This one has, on at least four occassions, sent me in totally wrong, without question, directions in the 8-10 times I have used it after recent purchase.
Summary: Thank God, I got home finally! I just used this GPS to my trip to Toronto, Canada via Niagara fall, from Annapolis, Maryland. the trip to there was fine, I travelled around 490 some miles completely depending on the GPS. I was grateful to it so started to trust this little device. somehow, when I tried to return. from the beginning estimate, it gave me a number about 580 some miles. I was so confused and no clue why the return trip so much longer.
Excerpt: Note: 2012 Garmin 40LM Would give nonsense directions on 3of 5 times using it. Once it told me go .2 miles "off Road" when I was on route 322. It told me after a few hundred feet to do a "U Turn" which I did. A couple of minutes later, on the same road, it said do a "U turn" sending me back in the original directio.
Excerpt: I am a livery driver - this is my third Garmin (they only last about a year!). I hate it....it gives directions that send me all over the place to get from one point to a short distance away. Also doesn't say "recalculating" so I know I've taken a wrong turn. I brought it back!
