Summary: for the price im very happy. its got the typical garmin matte finish screen, its very resilient which is the ultimate plus, these things are hard to break. i had my last one brand new in 2008 til the other month and it worked great, just suddenly mine had stopped locating satellites so i needed a new one.
Summary: Bought this gps for my truck, I allread have the same one in my car, same one. Reason for purchase, I like the bluetooth, don't have to play with phone to answer calls. Everything else works fine too. If i had another vehicle I would buy the same one.
Great overall, value and function, talk back so you dont have to look at it

Summary: I like when it says where are you and it tells you. I lets you put that location on Favorets if you want. I like the speed limits it gives you on the road you are traveling. Speed limits change often and you don't realize it. I purchased it and it was never opened or used as I can see, however it would not let me down load the information on how do use the unit or up dated the maps without paying for it. It said immediately you map needs updated it is out of date.
Summary: One of the main reasons I bought this particular unit was for the blue tooth feature only to find out it is not compatible with my Casio Boulder cell phone. Bottom line is make sure you do your research to find out if this unit is compatible with your cell phone. Other than the blue tooth issue, this unit is as good as any other Garmin for directions.
Summary: In a word, Garmin is simple to use with many models to choose from. I chose this 285w for a number of reasons, but the bluetooth technology was the most attractive to me. In an age where laws are being passed to deal with drivers who insist on the distraction of cell phone usage on our frenetic highways, I wanted to end that practice.
Summary: There is one thing people should know before purchasing .... as of 1/1/2012 MSN is discontinuing the traffic feature. You shall not be able to renew it even. I do not know about the other features like the movies, flight info, etc. So it loses some of its value straight away. Sadly, that bring me to wonder if I should really pay a lot for it. Basically it will be like the Nuvi 265w (No traffic feature) Otherwise my daughter loves it and I want one.
Summary: This is our first GPS, so we're thrilled with the assistance it provides in the car (we moved to a different city a year ago, and got lost a lot) - that it gives us directions, re-calculates when we make a wrong turn, and searches for points-of-interests nearby. What we really dislike about this unit is that it resets all the time, so we would lose the map and any upcoming turns while driving, until it reboots itself.
