Ok for Price

Jeremy D., Newegg
6 June 2011
  • Summary: Summary: Not worth it, get a newer unit with more features or just use your phone. Garmin will be dead in 3 years anyway.
  • Pros: Price. It "works".
  • Cons: Works is in quotes for a few reasons. Since this is a refurb the maps are woefully out of date, and sometimes just plain wrong, I don't think that house over there actually has a Quiznos, Garmin. The traffic feature is worse than useless. It runs of an FM signal that is 10-15 minutes behind and t...

So-so

Ian S., Newegg
7 February 2011
  • Summary: You get what you pay for. Free traffic is nice, but not reliable AT ALL. It often tries to take me on back roads when the highways are clear and sometimes gives odd directions (like "stay right" when there is no fork). My three-year old Magellan GPS with no TTS and old maps is more reliable.
  • Pros: Will get you there.
  • Cons: Won't always take the best route; poor arrival estimation time; traffic is slow to update and not always accurate. Talks too much. Poor UI (for example, you have to back out of the map view to get to volume).

Traffic is a lie

Matthew C., Newegg
7 October 2010
  • Summary: -Short battery, I had other things using the outlit on the long drive and this was a hassle. I couldn't tell you if other models experience the same problem. It's likely.
  • Pros: -Solid directions -Recharge is fairly quick -Other useful features like restaurants, though its obviously missing quite a few things.
  • Cons: -There is no traffic updating. It simply does not work. Buy another model if this is your intention. -Signal 'lock-on' can take upwards of 5 minutes.

Walmart
20 July 2010
  • Summary: After reading several hundred GPS reviews I concluded that the Garmin 265WT was the best unit available for what I wanted it to do, get me from point A to point B the best possible way. Walmart did its job and I got the unit in 48 hours. I charged the battery, updated the software and the maps.

  • Summary: Unit was more than just refurbished...it was used. The unit had multiple scratches. Software jammed twice and the automatic traffic signal reception worked for one day and then stopped. I returned the unit to my local WalMart for a refund.

Well???

Johnny B., Newegg
12 July 2010
  • Summary: Hate to say it, but you get what you paid for. Unless it is new from the start you run a greater risk of things like this. NewEgg stayed true to their good customer and issued an immediate RMA and refund. Good job NewEgg, that is why I keep coming back!
  • Pros: Has lots of features, great price on the re-furb model. The Bluetooth feature is pretty cool and seemed to work OK, the traffice update worked but maybe wasn't up to the minute. Posted speed limit on the interstate matched what the device said it should be.
  • Cons: It is a refurb, and it still had problems. I liked the unit, hated to send it back. The audio intermittely would scramble and you couldn't understand what it was saying, and the tone when you touch the screen went haywire too. Unit still visually was functioning though.

Great features - Poor Navigation

Jerry V., Newegg
2 July 2010
  • Summary: I purchased this Garmin as a replacement for a 2006 TomTom one. Even though the TomTom had good map details, great rounting, and excellent freeway lane assistance, I reasoned why pay $79 for a map update when an extra $50 would get me a new GPS with updated performance and features.
  • Pros: Great display and very useful menu structure
  • Cons: Routing selections were torturous, navigation was poor

Refurbished Buyers BEWARE

Drew P., Newegg
1 March 2010
  • Summary: I bought the unit refurbished for my wife and I cannot update it because Newegg didn't reset the unit or serial number or whatever it is with Garmin to show it is passing to a new owner. What this does is blocks the new buyer from being able to get updates to the unit because it thinks it is stolen.
  • Pros: Does what it says.
  • Cons: See Other thoughts.

problems

Terrence V., Newegg
15 February 2010
  • Pros: gives great directions-large screen
  • Cons: Received my refurb. 265wt and immediately installed all updates and maps. Very easy. Next paired my iphone with the unit/easy. Then I begin using it. First thing I do make a phone call. Works fine. Couple phone calls later no longer working. Odd. Still not working a week later. Next up I turn the...
