Summary: bought for a motorhome trip to France in July. every time we passed a town it directed us off the auto route and through the town centre -to prevent this I had to plot every days journey by via points but if you then missed one out it kept demanding you turn around and go back to it.
Summary: No Garmin Lock. Cannot set home because if you do and someone steals the garmin all they have to do is hit home to find where you live. Very disappointed in this lack of feature. Garmin needs to update software to include lock. Not Happy.
Decent GPS crippled by huge coverage gaps in the map software
11 November 2014
Summary: I have regularly updated my maps every time they become available on the Garmin website, and overall I like the GPS and how it operates, the menus and ease of use, the speed of acquiring satellites, BUT - The mapping software my Garmin 2597LMT uses is copyrighted 1987-2014 by HERE.
Summary: im not the best to review the garmin nuvi 2597 as i purchased one from halfords and it turned out it had no maps loaded on it . so they replaced it staight away and the second one had a soft wear problem so i never got to use one what i did was buy the dearer nuvi 2599LMT-D now that one is faultless...
Summary: I selected this particular unit because it was advertised to have Bluetooth wireless communication capability. Unfortunately, the only way it links by Bluetooth is to act as a hands-off intercom TO a cell phone.
Summary: I like the ease of use of the garmins but have had a problem that the Nuvi series likes to take you on side roads and back streets when it should stay on the main roads , I had hoped that this problem would be corrected in this newer high end model, but is not.
Summary: So far, I can't even test it. I bought it about 5 days ago. Today I unpacked it, started charging, and then went to Garmin to register and get map updates. It's been 10 hours now. The 4 software updates took just minutes. The map update (Full coverage of North America) won't complete.
Summary: Someone goofed here, and i think it was me. My Nuvi 2555 was stolen, it displayed constant traffic ahead with a simple red/green, a mute button on the main screen and great graphics. The 5557 has none of these. The traffic conditions is a 1/3 screen selected popup (same available in 2555).
Summary: This GPS is slow in responding and doesn't give enough notice for a lane change in heavy traffic. I am just about on top of my exit before this unit tells me to change lanes to exit. I have missed a few exits because of that due to traffic along side of me and I couldn't get over.
