Summary: I am not sure what Garmin is doing but the software is a joke.
Pros: Clear screen. Nice options. Actually lots of great options. Customer support was trying to be helpful
Cons: Consistent failure to find the shortest route no matter what the settings were. Failed to find basis addresses that my old Garmin knew of. Shortest distance setting are worthless. Fastest time settings are a joke. Not worth the $100 I spent on it. 30 percent of the speed limits North of Boston were wrong.
Excerpt: I really love this GPS. The directions are spot on and the voice is amazingly realistic. Most of the GPSs around, and my phone, have a really hard time judging distance until giving you what to do next. This one takes out all the guesswork. It even give you landmarks to look fore and lane assistance. I never knew how much I would appreciate that feature until I had it.
Excerpt: Was skeptical that I would like this GPS as I own 2 others. I travel daily on business locally and I also fly to destinations (large cities) taking my GPS along. Therefore I tend to be very selective when it comes to picking a GPS. I like the voice command, lane guidance, landmark guidance, route options, traffic alerts, and ease of finding nearest gas, bank, and food. The voice command features are better than expected, 80% of the time it gets the address correct.
Excerpt: Worked better than I expected. Clear and precise directions. Easy to set up. Free map upgrades are a real plus. Worked well with our old mount. Garmin support is terrific, they really care and want to help. Only problem was that there was no manual in the box. Had to download it and print it out. We do some traveling and the GPS keeps us on tract. We made a wrong turn in a busy area and the device pu us back on the correct route. We call it Chloi after the gal on 24.
Summary: While I'm impressed with the Motion-X GPS on my iPhone, it does not work (1) when I loose the carrier's signal in the middle of nowhere, (2) on a cruise ship and (3) in an airplane. And I want or need to use my GPS in all three situations! There are many new upgrades since I owned my last Garmin several years ago (like voice recognition, etc.) A little bigger 5.0" screen is also nice!
