  • Summary: This unit does not provide the best routes. I have followed some routes this unit has given me and after driving them and becoming familiar with the area have found shorter more direct routes. This has happened on several occasions. I have kept up with the map updates. I bought this unit in January of 2014 and it has stopped working. Won't turn on. I am going to need to request a repair. Fortunately, (I guess) it is still under warranty.

Unlisted requirements

Robert P., Newegg

  • Summary: I'll reserve comment on the product until I can update the maps and actually use it, but don't see that happening anytime soon.
  • Pros: Looks like a nice unit. ADVERTISES great function for the price.
  • Cons: Unlisted system requirements demanding cable or highest spreed DSL in order to obtain map updates advertised with product. So if you live in a rental in which you can't install the wiring for one of those and are using a legacy wimax modem, you don't get everything you paid for.

  • Summary: Great shipping and service from Walmart. The refurbished unit was in new condition, however the unit was defective. The Bluetooth would not let you carry on a conversation as it would cut in and out, even with a strong signal. Also the color of the screen was very pale, even after trying different settings. I think it is a good value if it worked right. I did bring it back to Walmart, and received credit with no problem. RRM.

GPS works well, but advanced features underwhelming.

  • Summary: Use for GPS, but don't count on the other features much.
  • Pros: -Really does a nice job of routing to destinations., -Provides access to POIs when not within reach of a cell tower, although sometimes not accurate.
  • Cons: -POIs not real-time as are those on cellphones., -Must update manually to make sure POIs are accurate and up-to-date., -Traffic info only available in major urban locations, not along interstate routes.

  • Summary: The traffic receiver (GTM33) which came with this unit was defective and would not connect to the navigation unit. It seems that Garmin has poor quality control. Also, the unit would not power up couple of times, had to wait about half hour for the navigation to start up. The navigation direction were mostly correct, but few times gave me incorrect Left and Right information.

  • Summary: I bought a Garmin nuvi 855 about a year and a half ago when I moved to a new state. I bought Garmin because it was highly recommended by a friend and was a name I recognized. I have been disappointed by my Garmin since the first week I used it. It freezes about 3 out of every 5 times that I use it. And I can't just turn it off and on again. I have to take out the battery and let it sit for a few seconds before it will unfreeze. It gets confused a lot.

  • Summary: I really wanted this to work. We bought this Garmin because it was advertised as having "hands-free Bluetooth speakerphone" and lifetime map updates. We had a Garmin previously and knew we wanted a Garmin again. This model 2595LMT was a really good GPS (5" screen easy to see, nice features) and I'm sure we would have loved to keep it - but the Bluetooth speakerphone was a JOKE. The caller's voice is so faint and nearly impossible to hear that it was ridiculous.

  • Summary: The Garmin Lifetime Updater application is not updating the device. My PC detects the devices and I am able to browse the product's memory. When applying the map update per the instructions, it does not update. I have tried on several occassions to update the maps to no avail. If this doesn't work soon, I am going to return the product.
