Features

Garmin nüvi 255W is a widescreen navigator that leads the way with 2D or 3D maps and voice prompted turn-by-turn directions. It is able to speak street names. It is able to store up to 1000 way points. It is equipped with Points of Interest (POIs) database with hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and others. It also accepts custom POIs such as school zones and safety cameras. User can set proximity alerts to inform user of the upcoming POIs. With HotFix™ satellite prediction, it calculates position with improved speed. It is equipped with build-in memory and micro SD card slot. It has a non-user replaceable rechargeable lithium-ion battery which provides up to 4 hours of battery life. It is also equipped with Garmin Lock which is a theft deterrent system that locks the device. It can be featured as a picture viewer to view pictures. It is FM traffic compatible. With the "Where Am I?" emergency locator feature, user is able to view current location information including location coordinates, nearest address and nearest hospitals, fuel stations and police stations. It is equipped with other features such as world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter and calculator. It is compatible with optional enhanced MSN® Direct content and Garmin Garage (car shaped icon for map navigation).The standard package comes with preloaded City Navigator® NT for North America or Europe (full coverage), vehicle suction cup mount, vehicle power cable, dashboard disc and quick start manual. It measures 4.8 X 2.8 x 8 inches in dimension and weighs approximately 173g.

Garmin announced Garmin Nuvi 255 an update to the Nuvi 200 line at CeBit today that makes their entry level devices a lot more appealing. The Garmin Nuvi 255W has voice capability but cannot be commanded with voice. It has a huge number of POI (Points of Interest) built in and you can add up to 1000 additional ones. You can also set proximity alerts when you are approaching a POI. You also have speed limits and the current speed indicators on the screen. The key to a good GPS is the interface and the Garmin nüvi 255W’s is one of the best ones that I have dealt with in comparison to other GPS models. It is well designed unit from both the out casing to the software within. Garmin has been regarded as the leader in GPS technology and they continue the trend with the nüvi 255W. "I've owned a Garmin 200W for over a year and it was great, so why get the 255W? Well when I saw that the 255W had the next turn proudly displayed in the upper left corner I jumped at it. That was the major "flaw" in the 200W, it didn't show the next turn until you were almost there and that was a major issue with me, as in California the freeways are crowded and you need lots of time to change four lanes over. Pretty easy to use. Good graphics and it tells you where to turn by street name. That is the best feature. It shows you far ahead where to turn and then says the street. Very easy to use. Read more
