Summary: Maps are outdated. Newer models have unlimited map updates. Works good though for local places. . . As long as you can enter the address. I used my phone to find addresses then entered into GPS.
Summary: My first Garmin product was a Nuvi 255W. I gave it to my wife so she could navigate in New Hampshire. I purchased a Nuvi 255WT (with traffic) because I was traveling a lot between our home in New York State and New Hampshire. I like the Garmin product but wish it had more.
Summary: Bought this unit to replace an older street pilot. Like the thin design and the widescreen, but all else seems like a step backward. Biggest issue is volume control -- much prefer being able to adjust volume with a knob, not multiple clicks on the touch screen.
Summary: routes well, display not as bright as one would like so difficult to see on bright sunny day, not as bright as my 250w, easy to see at night, TTS voices not clear enough especially if radio is on at same time, should be louder without speaker distortion, minor complaints can be lived with as gps...
Cheap basic unit. Gets you there OK but that's it. Lifetime traffic is worthless.

Summary: All GPS devices have a single core function, so the only way Garmin can sell higher priced units is to withhold useful features and ease-of-use from these lower price units. Said another way, these were top-of-the-line features ... back in the Stone Age.
Summary: I bought this to replace my failing Nuvi 350 because I've always liked Garmin products and my old one was getting outdated, slow, and starting to crash. This one caught my eye because of two major features that I thought would be extremely helpful and fix two of my major complaints with the original...
Good Sat Nav let down by traffic system and EU map coverage
12 July 2009
Excerpt: I chose the 255WT after previously owning the excellent Garmin Nuvi 200W which sadly broke after being dropped on a hard floor. I decided to upgrade i.e. traffic and Euro maps. This unit is a fair improvement on the 200W, having a slightly higher res and brighter screen with more info on the main...
Excerpt: Garmin have now confirmed that the 255WT does NOT speak street names and have amended the description on their web site. If you want this feature - I did - buy another unit. Otherwise very good.
Summary: Update on previous judgement 18 months after purchase: Traffic receiver cable plug poor and very hard to connect to my cars cigarette lighter (other plugs work fine). Navigation ok, central unit sturdy and reliable, but tom-tom is classes better in graphics and info.
Summary: This item was delivered very quickly and was good value for money. The booklets that come in many laguages with the item are very basic and not informative enough. I found that having to go on line to access the entire manual very annoying and very time consuming.
