Summary: Save your money and avoid this terrible GPS, which is at best annoying and useless. It can take from 15 minutes up to half an hour to acquire satellites and just start working. This happens even in big metropolitan areas like L.A. -not even think about using it in the middle of the country or a lost random town.
Summary: I started using this product and in 1 months time it is doing weird things. It shows me incorrect paths and also does not work as per the settings. I would like to return it and get a new one. Let me know the warranty for the item.
Summary: I purchased a nuvi 255WT in December of 2009. The unit had 2010 maps loaded. I did not turn the unit on until March when I was making a trip to Phoenix. I connected to Garmin on the web and ran updates. I started using the unit at the car rental at the Phoenix airport. The unit was very slow to respond. It would tell me to make a turn after it was too late. It was like that the whole trip. One day I was going to Tortilia Flat. Been there many times before.
Summary: In reading reviews, many folks seem to compare a gps device to having no gps at all. In that respect, practically all devices would deserve 4-5 stars. I received this device as a replace to my old, slow, and very large (but quite good) garmin streetpilot III. So here's my issues: - It produces a route quickly but the algorithm places a heavy weight on large streets, so much that I sometimes get some awkward, unnecessary turns in my routes that cost me time.
Excerpt: I bought the 255W a few weeks ago in the UK and find it very easy to set up and helpful for getting around towns in the UK. It is slim enough to fit into your pocket, but I would suggest purchasing a case. I am amazed at the technology but it does have its limitations, some must be Garmins fault, others must be attributed to the map database. There are a lot of downsides to this product.
GARMIN NUVI 255WT became less accurate after updating maps
Brian Graham, Amazon

Summary: Updated maps recently on my Garmin Nuvi 255WT and directly from the manufacturer. Accuracy of directions became much worse than ever before. Forget about trying to navigate in Toronto, SW Ontario or even on the Bruce Peninsula. The final straw was yesterday when returning from Lake Huron. Garmin had me taking every highway unknown to me and the journey hom seemed to last for many hours.
Summary: At first, this seemed like a wonderful product, but attempting to use it has had mixed results. When it's accurate, it's great. Sadly, though, it's more often so inaccurate that it can even be dangerous. Imagine being on a motorway - one that's more than 10 years old - and the machine doesn't seem to know it's there. You're on it, trying to get somewhere you've never been, and the machine tells you, with no warning, to take a left turn NOW.
Summary: All seems fine except the free map update wouldn't update the complete map. Ended up replacing the whole of Euro with a single country. Having got that sorted the first journey seemed ok. Arrived at the destination. Went to enter the next location and it locked up. There is nothing documented in the manual to reset it. with no sat nav or traffic report we joined the M25 and found our selves in a 6 hour traffic jam. Check the web whe we arrived back.
Summary: I purchased one of these to replace a TomTom One V3 which I had given to my son. First journey (local to test), it mis-navigated me to the address (about 1/4 mile short of the destination). Second journey OK, except if I am going from the M4 J8/9 to the M40 J4 along the A404, why does it tell me to leave the A404 at the A4, only to go straight back onto the A404??!! Next journey was a reverse of the second, except it picked a different route (Derby to Wokingham).
