outdated, not reliable

Claire Bloom, Amazon
27 December 2010
  • Summary: This model has outdated maps. It does not know that the exit I take off of the highway exists, even though that exit opened 6 years ago. This is particularly bad since it is also the new exit to the new Indianapolis airport!

Useful but annoyingly hard to use.

Rahul Roy-Chowdhury, Amazon

  • Summary: The functionality is good, but there are two major drawbacks that have caused this to lie unused in the glove compartment since I bought it: * it takes incredibly long to acquire the initial satellite signal. Just to get started takes ~ 5 minutes. Using Google Maps on the iPhone is much more efficient. * the touchscreen is very poor. Hard to type and key recognition is often awry and I need to restart to get the display aligned with the touch input.

  • Summary: I bought this on sale for like half price and though i was getting one heck of a deal because of its 'original price' This GPS does not even begin to qaulify as a deal. We bought a smaller tomtom that is so much cheaper and so much better with features and maps. The maps for this GPS are $70 each! ...... No thank you!

Doesn't come with a manual, Garmin sent a copied manual

Stephen Ryan "aerialshooter", Amazon
19 May 2010
  • Summary: I don't often write reviews but must say this Garmin nuvi 205W is a huge disappointment. First, it doesn't come with a manual. I returned one unit only to receive another without a manual. Garmin sent me some cheap copy machine copy of the manual- very poor. The manual makes reference to plugging your computer into the mini-USB cable to update it's software. Trouble is the cable has a auto accessory power plug on one end and my computer doesn't have a port for that.

Maybe mine was possessed?

anna b., Amazon

  • Summary: I received the Garmin Nuvi 205W as a Christmas gift this year. I had been using my mother's 255, which gave great routes, was really easy to use, and I never had any problems with it. I figured, same company, same maps, same routes, right? Wrong. So wrong. I am living in the mountains for work right now, and most recently, the route 205W gave me to get home involved a one-lane dirt road complete with a several-hundred-foot drop right off the road. I drive an SUV.

Improving but still not great

Bud, Amazon
14 January 2009
  • Summary: I will give some comparison for those who were also considering the earlier units, especially the 7x0 models. The 2x5 units have a faster processor, and the routing and menus are noticeably snappier. The display is also cleaner and shows the MPH on the main screen. Compared to the relatively mature 760, it is MUCH more stable probably due to the less (gimmicky) features.
