Cons: Maps can't be updated unless you install a micro-sd card & can navigate Garmin's labyrinth website; Garmin didn't consider map updating hard drive requirements with this unit! This model is much slower than my 4-year old model at locating satellites.
Pros: Good maps. Fairly good directions. Not so good at redirects.
Cons: Garmin claims this unit is Bluetooh compatible. They do not note that it seems to be comaptible with phones other than those that my wife and I, or our 3 kids own. It is NOT compatible and does not work with MANY current models of Smartphones. I have the
Summary: i bought from sam club kept 3 days return, its a good product as the service but going to my home i take short cut always going it does redirect new short road but comming back i hit new short cut it never take back same way its 2 mile road and tell me to go 3 street small one i had never travelled in 10 yrs its goes no where but keep telling me take that small street and after that if i ignore go 1 mile its does take me to old route as no street comes inbetween its...
Pros: The touchscreen display is clear and responsive. It also locks on to the satellites very quickly compared to my old streetpilot.
Cons: It seriously underestimates trip times, requiring you to break the speed limit to arrive on time. Map detail is disappointing: cross streets/side roads not displayed. Infuriating 'recalculation' message can't be disabled (it could on older models).
Summary: I have had this unit for about two months and have traveled extensively in TN, NC, VA, and KY. It is easy to use as are all of the Nuvi Series Garmin products, however there have been some major problems with it. 1) The traffic reporting feature is unreliable, erroneous, and essentially worthless. I have been unable to discern a difference between light (green), amber (medium), and red (heavy) traffic. The colors make no sense based on actual traffic or delays.
Summary: It seemed like a great GPS on paper and as a Garmin GPS user, I ordered it. It was quite a disappointing experience as it frequently indicated LOST GPS SIGNAL even on a major freeway. Worse was the Garmin's customer service department....no help at all. I decided to return the device not simply because of the lost signal problem but also based on Garmin's poor customer service. Hope Garmin works on it to improve their customer service.
Adequate but disappointing, particularly compared to older models

Summary: Many other reviews have said it, but I must say it again. This model is a large step backwards in many ways from my previous Nuvi 350 (which I purchased in Dec. 2006 and used happily until it was stolen in November 2007). I have owned the 1490t since April of 2010 and been using it semi-regularly in various parts of the country since then. I won't go into much detail on basic functionality any vehicle GPS should have. Everything more or less works correctly.
