Died after 18 months.

American E., Newegg
29 March 2014
  • Pros: Nice screen. Navigation works well.
  • Cons: Died after 18 months (during use). Would not start beyond the "Garmin" splash screen. Would not do a hard reset. This is a well recognized fault if you search the Web. Phoned Garmin tech support - confirmed that it had bricked itself, and outside warranty.

Map updates don't work

Charles L., Newegg
22 February 2012
  • Summary: I have an very old Tom Tom and it works better. I would pass on this GPS as it's use less. I've gone to tech sites and they say the Garmin support laughed at them.
  • Pros: Size easy to read looks good.
  • Cons: Map updates say not enough memory to load firmware update. So map updates don't load as can not get past this. Life time map useless as not enough memory. I have not added any thing no music pictures and it still does not work. I would not buy this one.

Turning off ADS turns off traffic

Anonymous, Newegg
21 January 2012
  • Pros: more responsive than 265 nuvi and 760 nuvi. Good size, bright screen.
  • Cons: ADS/Coupons pop up constantly. Per Garmin; the only way to turn off pop-ups is to turn off Lifetime Traffic! They report that this is how the Traffic feature is paid for. Maps remain below par. Commercial data poor.

Average GPS with good reception

ramerson, epinions.com
8 June 2011
  • Summary: Good reception. Maps are years out of date. Traffic feature useless due to ads. Large screen is nice. Buy something else.
  • Pros: Large screen. Lane assist helpful. Quick reroutes. Password. Sensitive GPS. Auto power-on/off.
  • Cons: Annoying ads with traffic feature. Maps very out of date. Menus not intuitive.

Hardware fine, software is P**P

john p., Newegg
8 April 2011
  • Summary: No rhyme or reason apparent for why and how the route is generated. One trip, driving a 45 ft bus, the thing sent me off the highway, into Harlem, though I was headed for Michigan! maybe the vendors paid to have the software generate routes that take you by their establishments ?? JUNQUE!
  • Pros: bluetooth works fine. display and touch screen are fine. extensive database of stores & malls, cousin Vinny's bar etc.
  • Cons: Navigation software obviously desgned by people who have never traveled. no effective way to review route before driving it. routes generated are often crazy.

It'll DO.

christopher b., Newegg
30 November 2010
  • Summary: Why would you need a memory card slot that can only be used for pictures for a GPS? WHY do you need pictures on a GPS! The best feature is the bluetooth. If your looking for a GPS with bluetooth get the cheapest one you can get. The extra features aren't worth it.
  • Pros: Lots of features - Bluetooth works great witch is one of the main reasons i got it. Also the Eco fuel feature is a plus.
  • Cons: Well lets see. I have to push the screen much harder and more accurately than my old Garmin nuvi. I have yet to see the traffic updates work. Also, you can forget about adding the vehicle and voice bundle's from garmin's website because there isn't much memory for you to do so. Yes it has a memory card slot but it won't read the vehicles or voice folders from it. The memory card slot is only good for pictures which is pretty stupid if you ask me.

Not up to Garmin's normal standard

Hutch, Amazon
25 October 2010
  • Summary: I have had this unit for about two months and have traveled extensively in TN, NC, VA, and KY. It is easy to use as are all of the Nuvi Series Garmin products, however there have been some major problems with it. 1) The traffic reporting feature is unreliable, erroneous, and essentially worthless. I have been unable to discern a difference between light (green), amber (medium), and red (heavy) traffic. The colors make no sense based on actual traffic or delays.

Garmin 1490T

Joe, Amazon
29 September 2010
  • Summary: It seemed like a great GPS on paper and as a Garmin GPS user, I ordered it. It was quite a disappointing experience as it frequently indicated LOST GPS SIGNAL even on a major freeway. Worse was the Garmin's customer service department....no help at all. I decided to return the device not simply because of the lost signal problem but also based on Garmin's poor customer service. Hope Garmin works on it to improve their customer service.

not very helpful

Robert R., Newegg
3 September 2010
  • Summary: I love everything abot this unit except for one thing. It's not a very good device when you need it most. Being off by 75ft doesn't sound like alot until it put you on the wrong road or misses the correct exit lane. I could go on but will simply say: try another brand.
  • Pros: Nice display, nice graphics
  • Cons: Weak antenna, slow startup, off by at leaat 75 ft
