Refurbished 1490LMT Bad Order

,, TigerDirect.com
26 July 2012
  • Summary: Received this refurbished product and it was still defective. I contacted CS and they no longer had the same item available. I substituted a 1390LMT refurbished unit and because I needed it quickly for a vacation, CS sent it 2 day overnight delivery. This new unit works perfectly. Thank you!

not reliable

reb, TigerDirect.com
27 May 2012
  • Summary: seemed to work well for a while while on a 9 hour trip, it shut itself off several time whilc plugged into the charger, came back on in less than a minute. One time it happened within 4 minutes of a previous shut down. Fortunately, did not shut down during a critical turn. Every time when coming out of a parking lot onto a main road, it tells us to turn in the opposite direction of the highlighted route.

Turning off ADS turns off traffic

Anonymous, Newegg
21 January 2012
  • Pros: more responsive than 265 nuvi and 760 nuvi. Good size, bright screen.
  • Cons: ADS/Coupons pop up constantly. Per Garmin; the only way to turn off pop-ups is to turn off Lifetime Traffic! They report that this is how the Traffic feature is paid for.

"The engineers didn't think this model through!"

windbite, CNET
3 December 2011
  • Pros: Lots of screen space. Thinner design.
  • Cons: Maps can't be updated unless you install a micro-sd card & can navigate Garmin's labyrinth website; Garmin didn't consider map updating hard drive requirements with this unit! This model is much slower than my 4-year old model at locating satellites.

"Garmin Nuvi 1490"

rfr88, CNET
18 May 2011
  • Pros: Good maps. Fairly good directions. Not so good at redirects.
  • Cons: Garmin claims this unit is Bluetooh compatible. They do not note that it seems to be comaptible with phones other than those that my wife and I, or our 3 kids own. It is NOT compatible and does not work with MANY current models of Smartphones. I have the

"I was so disappointed that I returned it."

R_J_Hunter, CNET
9 January 2011
  • Pros: The touchscreen display is clear and responsive. It also locks on to the satellites very quickly compared to my old streetpilot.
  • Cons: It seriously underestimates trip times, requiring you to break the speed limit to arrive on time. Map detail is disappointing: cross streets/side roads not displayed. Infuriating 'recalculation' message can't be disabled (it could on older models).

Not up to Garmin's normal standard

Hutch, Amazon
25 October 2010
  • Summary: I have had this unit for about two months and have traveled extensively in TN, NC, VA, and KY. It is easy to use as are all of the Nuvi Series Garmin products, however there have been some major problems with it. 1) The traffic reporting feature is unreliable, erroneous, and essentially worthless. I have been unable to discern a difference between light (green), amber (medium), and red (heavy) traffic. The colors make no sense based on actual traffic or delays.
