  • Summary: I wouldn't waste my time with the Lifetime Map Updates. Unable to update and purchased as a Christmas gift to my wife....What a joke. Garmin makes a great product, but you pay extra for the Lifetime Updates, totally not worth the extra money.

Could be better

Billk, Amazon
19 October 2010
  • Summary: I wish I could have used this unit before buying. The main disappointment was that the unit only shows street names and not the route numbers. Other GPS units I have used show both the street name and route numbers. Where I live street names are very rarely shown at intersections but the route numbers are. Also the voice prompt doesn't always match the highlighted route shown and the voice prompt is sometimes delayed.

Garmin 1390T - OK but not exceptional

alt, Amazon
31 July 2010
  • Summary: I have another Garmin unit (275T) and have had several Tom Tom systems. This unit is below the Garmin standards but significantly better then anything TomTom produces. The onboard memory is just barely sufficient to hold the NA maps. In fact, you have to remove languages in order to be able to load anything extra. While there is a slot for a micro sd card, it has very limited use. You can load an additional map OK.

  • Summary: How does the lifetime traffic work? Have yet to figure this out... Directions are accurate about 95% or the time. Lane assist is part of the problem with this, but usually accurate. Very quick and responsive.

Great, when it was still working

Lunachick, Amazon

  • Summary: Got the unit a few months ago. Great unit, great features. However, on a recent trip in an area I was not familiar with the unit froze. I powered it down. On re-start it flashed to the Garmin splash screen and constantly re-booted. I had to use my cell for navigation. When we got to the hotel I called Garmin(was on hold for an hour) and was told by one of the technicians that "there is a known software issue with these units and we do not have a fix for this".

I got the freeze

Amazon Customer "Mare", Amazon
24 May 2010
  • Summary: Well, I read all the reviews and they didn't lie. First time out my GPS froze on me and I had a hard time even turning it off and restarting it, and then had to reenter the info. I see so many reviews with this problem. IS Garmin doing anything about it? I've only had it a few days and I"m trying to decide whether to keep it. My older 750 has slightly lost its mind, but it works most of the time and it doesn't freeze.

STILL GETS LOST

David L. Speakman, Amazon
9 May 2010
  • Summary: The map is not up-to-date, even though it is the latest version. The unit still tries to make me take a street that has been closed off for a year. I reported this to Garmin and they say it will be checked out and possibly changed in the next update. It also has trouble getting back on route after, say a stop at a restuarant. It sometimes says to "turn right/left", when that actually is the opposite direction that you should go.

great gps, some flaws

  • Summary: i read a bunch of reviews on different models before i ultimately chose the 1390t. when it came down to the wire it was a hard choice between the 765t and the 1390t. The main difference I would like to point out is the charger. the 765t uses a mount charger, while the 1390t uses a micro usb fed directly into the unit. some users like the fact they dont have to unhook the charger when dismounting the unit(765t). like i said personal preference.

A Good System But Room For Improvement

Mary Ellison, Amazon
1 May 2010
  • Summary: This is my second GPS from Garmin. Both have been for automobile use. The first was a Garmin StreetPilot 2610, which I have had for about 8 years. While not completely dead yet, after roasting under 8 summer suns and freezing through 8 cold winters, it has finally started to present intermittent screen display problems. Not wanting to get caught without a working GPS, I purchased this unit.
