  • Summary: I recently purchased this model 1350LMT so I could drive to the Las Vegas airport to pickup and later return my son and family for their flights home. We named our gps unit "Mayhem", after the commercial. It got us to the airport, dropped the kids off and my wife headed back home, 80 miles away. It would not take us out of Las Vegas on the shortest or fastest route that it brought us in on.

Lifetime map updates designed to fail

Danton B., Amazon
7 December 2011
  • Summary: I like the unit as a navigator but I genuinely hate false advertising. This unit claims to have lifetime map updates, but it is impossible to do, because the unit's power preservation function turns the unit off before the updates can complete. So it is literally impossible to do. Save your money, don't pay for the map updates. Or, be prepared to waste 3 or 4 hours, as I did, trying to get this thing to update.

  • Summary: When I turn it on, it says it is unable to unlock the maps. The directions given by garmin to resolve the problem have not worked. I am still able to use the unit anyway. To get to the Palm Beach International Airport, it told me to turn onto Turnage Blvd. There is no such street name. If you buy a garmin, I suggest you include in your time of arrival a provision for Garmin Lost Time. That is the time it will take to find your destination after Garmin gets you lost.

  • Summary: Bought this for a cross-country drive to replace an old Garmin that I have loved. I thought that instead of paying for a map update for the old one, I'd just buy the new one with lifetime maps and traffic. Easily transferred all of my old favorites on to this one. It worked perfectly until it started shutting itself down mid-trip. Over and over. It would show our route. Then disappear and completely shut off.

Horrible Reception

lotus, Amazon
16 August 2010
  • Summary: I have used Many Garmin systems. 205, 255, 255W, this one is horrible. Why do you buy a GPS? To get quick directions and reliable reception. This one loses reception while passing under a small two lane overbridge and also takes forever to calculate the distances and get directions. Perhaps mine is a defective unit? All the bells and whistles of nice touch screen and smooth design are good, but if this does not get you where you want to, what is the use.

Freezes and shuts down!

dianelynne, Amazon

  • Summary: My first Garmin 1350t would shut down after about 10 to 15 min of use. They sent me a referb and on my last cross country trip it shut down twice. Both at key times, once when I had to call my husband at 5:00 AM in order to get directions. I love how it works...when it works. I would never buy another Garmin due to reliability. I never know when or where it will just quit leaving me stranded in the middle of my trip not knowing which way to go.
