Summary: From the day of purchase, has taken a long time to turn on properly (up to 15 minutes). This has been unsafe as the product not be operated while driving. Also, the screen has been freezing while I am driving. This product has overall been a disappointment and I am finding another sat nav I bought in 2004 (despite having no sound anymore) is much more superior as at least it is reliable.
Summary: Got this a couple of days ago ignoring all the reviews which spoke about how this sat nav keeps taking you into country roads and completely avoids motorways. I was under the impression that something that scores an average of 4 stars across 370 odd reviews can't be that bad. How wrong! This sat nav drives me completely nuts....it's almost as if motorways don't exist. It keeps taking you off motorways and into small, narrow country roads.
Summary: It is disgraceful that despite the implications of Garmin, you cannot upgrade this item immediately after buying it, for free. They ask you to input serial number to see if you are entitled to free upgrade. But no, you are not!!!! I wanted to give it to somebody for a present but am too embarrassed to give something with out of date maps, and at 100 dollars approximately too expensive to upgrade.
Garmin Nuvi - The SatNav That Loves Single Track Lanes
15 June 2012
Summary: Since I have had this piece of rubbish I have seen more B roads, single track lanes, country villages and unnamed roads than I ever thought were left in this country. It absolutely refuses to use Motorways, if there is a direct route is steadfastly ignores it and sends me along twisting and turning country lanes, arriving tired and frazzled at my destination. And it just loves taking me through town centers particularly during the rush hours.
Summary: Had this garmin nuvi for almost 3 months now, and used it recently for taking a 1 week tour of Scotland. It proved to be very unreliable when calculating the routes: - took me off the main roads... almost everytime - took me straight through Glasgow, instead going round it on a motorway - on the way back to London, it suggested I get off M6 with every opportunity Regardless of what settings I've used, it constantly came up with the craziest routes.
Summary: I bought this in summer 2011. I visited Weymouth, which has a lot of new roads, and they weren't showing on the Garmin - it instructed me to turn left - but the road no longer existed. I have just been to Cardiff, and it sent me down bus lanes, and again up a road which is no longer there - John Lewis have built a store on it.
Rubbish - returned after it eventually started rebooting over & over.
17 February 2012
Summary: Returned after 30 days as was just not fit for purpose, a really aweful purchase, terrible. Packed up eventually (rebooting over & over) Could not get updates, endless loop on software updating. Speed camera locations missed. Speed limits often wrong (at leasy 6 that I can recall). Distance to roundabouts etc all out by at least 15 metres, so inaccurate as hell on complicated routes.
Summary: I bought this product to replace a very old TomTom but in operation in the UK, France & Germany it has turned out to be pretty useless. It denies the existence of long established roads and postcodes which I know exist and the pronunciation of French & German place names had my wife and me ROFL. It simply cannot be relied upon. A waste of money.
Summary: I have had to use it 4 times to find unknown addresses, which is the reason for purchase.I have entered the post code and it has sent me on a wild goose chase. Yesterday I entered the PC and then the street, it would not me let finish writing the street which was a two word address and insisted it was in Lancashire when the PC was in Derbyshire.
Summary: I've had two of these - both failed. The first one wouldn't register through the net (should have seen that as a warning sign!) and then failed mid journey having routed me on an unusual route. The screen just went black, and then the unit wouldn't start up. Amazon (in fairness) were great and replaced it straight away. The second unit arrived a few weeks later. This time it did register on the web.
