Summary: Perhaps an unfair comparison, but I naively thought that this GPS would have technology that rivaled the smart phone. Instead, I found, from a user perspective, a primtive device -- small display, poor illumination, lot of menus with no explanation and utterly unintuitive. The owners' manual is a joke -- very basic instructions with no explanation as respects the jargon being used.
Cons: Hard To Read Maps, Not Intuitive, Poor Illumination, Poor Instructions
Summary: This is a terrific mapping GPS. It has all the features anyone could want. Except for the battery usage. The older 76csx batteries would last well beyond the normal 18 hour day. This product needs new batteries every six hours. And the batteries will die at the most inopportune time. This is a terrific product if battery life is not an issue.
Summary: I was so excited to get my new top of the line Garmin Montana 650t. I've had no less than twenty GPS units as an Outdoor guide and wilderness instructor. It arrived and I immediately charged the battery for the full 4 1/2 hours and ran outside to check it out. I turned it on and clicked on maps and that is when may enthusiasm started to die. With in the next 2 hours it has died completely.
Not as good as I expected. Very disappointed in Garmin warrenty

Summary: I guess I am quite disappointed with this unit for several reasons considering how much I paid for. .I purchased this unit for the large screen and the waterproof camera features and I hoped it had other more advanced features than my old DeLorme PN unit. I use this unit mostly for Geocaching and I am out almost every day, so I would hope the gpx files I load into the unit would be available when I need them, but many times when I'm in the woods several miles from home...
Summary: My Garmin will not communicate with my computer, and I have owned this less then a year. It has been meticulously cared for and does not work. For a $650 Garmin I am extremely disappointed. I am going to attempt to see what they will do to make this right.
Summary: The Garmin Montana 650t will not receive "chirp" info as advertised. Also it freezes and does not reveal hint, log, or other info. ..when geocaching. The screen is large and easy to read. I am returning my unit to Garmin but unfortunately they will only exchange with a refurbished unit. Does this seem right?
Summary: The Bundle includes an SD card but what Garmin don't tell you is that you cannot load up any of their other maps! You have to have the (original) SD card in the device to use the mapping and it allows no other storage without over-writing the bundle. Yes you could swap the device but a micro SD card is very easy to lose. Garmin failed to appreciate my problem as I was prepared to spend over £500 for the bundle and an additional on-road map.
