Summary: Purchased the 62st, loaded all my way points, within a short period it froze up and Garmin would not help in the least to unlock it. Apareantly there is a code that is needed, that I did not have and without that code they would not help me. Now it's a $600.00 paper weight.
Summary: I own the older version GPSmap 60CSx. I thought the 62St hoping for an improved version; it does have more memory capacity. However, I was VERY disappointed in the 62St and returned it. The 60CSx is FAR superior. The St has a lousy screen, not nearly as sharp as the 60CSx. The 62St has no external power input. Thus if you are driving on back roads with your GPS you must burn your batteries. The 62St is a prime example of the true meaning of "new and improved.
Summary: I bought this unit for multiple uses-mainly hunting and geocaching. I'm appalled at the accuracy, precision and performance of this model. Multiple way-points on a location vary by 10's of meters consistently and often 100's of meters or more (poor precision). Matching known points against a topo and my other GPS units show some points are just plain always wrong (poor accuracy). The compass constantly swings up to 180 degrees out, moving or at rest.
Summary: I would not recommend Garmin at all because of their new software policy. I just bought my 2nd Garmin device, and I CAN NOT load already purchased software on it. Once Garmin software gets loaded on a GPS, it is tied to that particular unit FOREVER, and can not be transferred to a newer unit you may buy. You have to buy a SECOND COPY of the software & install it again, that's right, two copies of the same software on your computer.
Summary: I recently purchased the GPSMAP 62st from Amazon.com. The unit did not work properly right out of the box. It would not locate satellites, and kept shutting off after 30 seconds. I tried everything, call Garmin, they could not help me. Finally I call Amazon for a RA, and sent the unit back the next day. Amazon was execellent! They gave me credit over the phone with no questions. I went back to Amazon and ordered the Garmin Oregon 550t GPS. It works great.
Summary: This is a lot of money to spend on a piece of kit that will not download specific maps. The maps themselves are well over a hundred quid and nothing I did persuaded the thing to download onto the device, if Garmin can't get their downloads sorted out it really isn't worth spending the money, not very impressed. I would stick with your iphone as hideous as they are, at least the maps are cheap to download(and exactly the same i.e OS maps) .
Summary: Like my Garmin405 this is a great device if it works and you can live with the worst user interface possible. My biggest beef is that it crashes frequently and that makes a navigation device pretty unusable. Also, the Basemap software is worse than software I can download from the net. At this price tag I expect well working software and devices.
Fine for American fishermen looking for a burger...

Summary: ....but ill-thought out GPS device. Crashes often, is v frustrating to use and is well over-priced. Garmin used to make decent products and I've had many. This is their worst to date. It is entirely geared towards the US recreational market but is generally useless for anything more demanding, such as desert or mountain use. If you wanna find a gas station, burger joint or somewhere to get your nails done whilst on a hike through the Rockies, you'll be ok..
Summary: Hallo erstmal zusammen.
