gps functionality solid but detail needs improvement
27 May 2014
Summary: the screen reads clear under the sun, gps functionality works well, I use 32G extension card on it and I can load so many maps. improvements: - the screen is not scratch resistent. seriously, every one is using glass now, garmin still uses clear plastic. I have to put screen protector on - battery life is not 2 days, unless you use 'battery save' mode, which turns off the screen when idle.
Summary: First and foremost, it has decent antenna. I was able to get a signal and mark within 18 feet inside the house. A outside test got me closer to 12 feet in comparison to 29 feet on the same marked waypoint of the same location with a Garmin Hcx, of 2007 vintage. Both set at WAAS. I really like the lanyard and carabiner having lost my Hcx in field. The switches and menu items are much easier to deal with.
I am impressed with the sensors for determining your location

Summary: I am impressed with the sensors for determining your location. I live in the UAE , the down side however is there are no topo maps of the middle east, so I had to subscribe to birdseye view, birdseye view has limitations on size of file file/ area / resolution to download. Also if I had to use only the 62s to go on a hike from my place of stay,it would go crazy so I had to further install road maps of the MENA region.
Summary: I use it to record my tracks and specific locations as I check trees in woodlots. Accurate waypoints. Good battery life. Will take some time to figure out how to use some of the features as steps do not always seem to be logical.
Great assistant for field activity but has some bugs
2 May 2012
Summary: The most pleasant feature for me is possibility to use raster maps with specific data. I like how this device keeps the satellites. Consumption of the batteries - more o less acceptable, near 12-14 hours of non-stop work for NiMH (Powerex Imedion 2400). But. At least my 62s has some bugs. Suddenly it changed consequence of waypoint numbers and steady persisted in the new order... Fun, but I don't like it.
It's nice, but not as good as the old Garmin 60 units.

Summary: The GPS is pretty good, but they are trying to make it more into a GPS unit used in a car. Unlike the Garmin 60 unit which is really easy to use. If they would have just taken the 62 like the 60 and included the paperless log in the 62, which would have made it a nice unit. Unable to delete Geo Caching logs from unit. There are several things that can be changed to help this unit out to make it a top of the line unit.
Summary: Excellent relation price/product. Good quality in general. Muy buena Relación precio producto Producto de buena calidad en general Algo confusas algunas funciones hace que sean difíciles de usar
Summary: I have had the gps62s for 1 week. I got it for $299.00 and no shipping at amazon. I can only compare it to an older model etrex. It does not compare! The 62s has unbelievable reception and starts up fast, the only time I have lost reception was in a bomb prof building and that was only momentary. The older etrex took for ever to find satalites and would lose it if you went under a twig. Battery life is very good. I use rechargeable.
