Garmin made it. I believe Garmin products are the best. That settles it.

  • Summary: Have not used the GPS in question. However, I am well aquainted with Garmin. Their products, commitment to gurantees and service and tech support are truly commendable. This is my fifth Garmin GPS purchase. I gave this GPS to my son and it has been installed on his new boat. I use a similar, discontinued 492 model.

  • Summary: I'm new to the boating scene and wanted something to show me where I was and how to get where I wanted to go in the San Joaquin delta. This does that, at least on the only time I had the opportunity to get on the water last month. I have a depth gauge on the boat and don't fish, so this doesn't have the sounder with it. I am thinking of getting the Inland Lakes VISION from Garmin just to get the extra rich detail.

The Garmin 531S is a great product and value for the money.

  • Summary: This is a top of the line unit. My old unit was simplier a 178C and easier to navigate. I find that the more I use this 531S it is becoming easier to use. Like anything new it just takes time and use to get better at operating it. It is more clear and well defined then my old unit. It has alot more options then the 178C. It came with Inland Lakes preloaded into it and with the Worldwide Basemap it is far superior.
