Summary: This is my fourth one. I use mine for fishing. I vertical fish submerged structure. It works great once you get use to getting around in the menus. They don't last forever. I use mine probably 30 times a year, on all day fishing trips. They last about 2-3 years before the screen starts locking up.
Summary: If you want a unit that works well under the canopy and is easy on batteries, this is worth considering. It is water resistant, accurate and easy to use. Black and white display is not a problem, unless you are looking for full topo displays. I may get another as a spare.
Summary: My Garmin GPS 76 purchased in 2003 has always performed flawlessly. The simple gray scale screen yields longer battery life than more "modern" color screens. Garmin says this unit gets up to 16 hours use without a battery change.
Summary: Installed my Garmin GPS 76 on the console of my Whaler, and it works great. Easily programmed and logical ease of use. I especially like the renaming of waypoints, making it simple to find the fishing spot you want. Battery life is a major plus, as my old one (different mfr) just ate batteries.
Summary: Got this GPS for primarily geocaching...It works wonderfully! Best Unit I have owned yet... and I have owned quite a few. Garmin has done it again! If you plan to use it for driving get the MAP76.. but for navigation while hiking this one is everything you will ever need. Great Unit!
