Summary: Garmin GPS 12 Handheld GPS receiver is one commonly used in our area before. It is a user friendly equipment easy to use, easy to manage and very fast tracking in the open area. a lot of my friend were looking forward on it. But unfortunately most of the GPS were unable to be ship to our Country. Brunei Darussalam. I am looking forward to purchase a few more. Currently I have around 7 units already. GPS 12, XL, 12 Map, GPS 72H.
Beware of the internal lihtium battery which will be dead by now.

Summary: Isn't it obsolete by now? It's much less sensitive than devices with newer GPS chipsets. You can't load topo maps into it. And, be aware that these units have an internal rechargeable lithium battery which will fail (permanently) if it has been stored without batteries for long periods. Which is how you would normally store it for long periods, if you don't want the alkaline cells to leak inside it. Bad design.

Summary: this garmin12 is very accurate and very usefull its very difficult to find it at my country,so i have purchased it but untill now it doesnt come yet its more than 1month that i've waiting and when it will come to my country?
Summary: I purchased the Garmin GPS 12 as a back up for the one I have already. These units are old school and tough as nails. These units are outstanding for rough rural areas you may be hiking or hunting. I have mine mounted to an XR500 dirt bike. These units are highly vibration resistant and waterproof. The few down sides are that they are still expensive to buy for an obsolete unit. Battery life is only about 24 hrs max(4 AA)and the display is sometimes difficult to see.
Summary: Hi Folks. THE Garmin GPS12 is a tough lil guy manufactured upto MIL standards. its very easy to use compared with more modern GPS units available now and as a portable device the batteries do last long enough for me to get back home safe. on the downside my only gripe is the unusual keypad layout. that i suppose is people are used to equipment such as mobile phones where the keypad is on the lower part of equipment.
Summary: Not state of the art but works extremely well for my purpose -- sailing around a race course! With the 12-volt adapter I'm able to plug it in to my cockpit and not worry about using the AA batteries. It gives me bearing and heading on one screen so I know whether I'm sailing high or low to my mark (destination). My first one broke after 10-11 years of use so I bought another as a replacement.
Summary: I LIKE THE INSTRUMENT BECAUSE OF ITS CONDITIONS....A RECOMENDATION FOR BEGINNERS AT OUT THE WILD,THE GARMIN BRAND IS ONE OF THE MOST SELF THAUGHT MODELS EASY TO USE AND GREAT FOR THE FISHERMAN IN ALL OF US
