Poor signal

A. Agnello "AA", Amazon
25 August 2007
  • Summary: I gave this one star because choosing zero was not an option. This unit is extremely slow to begin with, but when you are in the mountains, or any type of tree cover (and possibly clouds)... forget it. You would be better off with Ray Charles leading the way. I thought about purchasing data cables to upgrade the software, but the cable is almost as expensive as the unit.

Don't rely on this product for hiking!

Amazon
16 November 2000
  • Summary: This is my opinion of the Etrex GPS. I recently went backpacking in the Big South Fork national recreation area. I set a way point at my car and headed out. I received the weak signal prompt 90% of my hike. I'm glad the trails there are marked well and I didn't have to rely on this unit to get me back to my car.

Spend more money, get a better model

londonchemist, Dooyoo
24 October 2010
  • Excerpt: Sometimes, one certainly benefits from spending a bit more money on a product, going for the more expensive model of a product... This Garmin e Trex was purchased for only 70 pounds, and all though the cost is reason enough to be pleased, the quality of this Garmin product fails miserably in impressing me and doing its job as it should!

Unless a very experienced navigator already, the limitations outweigh the price-saving benefits

ontoinfinity, Dooyoo
20 August 2010
  • Excerpt: This is the most basic, entry-level Garmin handheld GPS device, which Amazon currently sells for £66. However, if you are thinking of buying one, the unit has some extremely serious limitations which may well wish that you had saved the money and bought a more up-to-date model: do not be misled into thinking that the eTrex range is essentially the same, except that the pricier models just have extra bells and whistles such as a colour screen rather than black and white.

Etrex: it's out off date

Andrew Shand, Amazon
28 December 2008
  • Summary: Don't buy it; for a little bit more you get the Etrex H with greater sensitivity. Amazon do the "H" for about £60.

For most, the hassle will outweigh the utility

Michael Beaman "Queensparker", Amazon
16 June 2008
  • Summary: This is my first GPS product and I hate it. It has lots of features that I don't need. The three features that I do need; reliability, good battery life and clear mapping, it singularly fails to deliver. (Granted the last is partly down to the OS). Getting the maps onto it requires more passwords and registrations than you can shake a stick at. First time around, after I had spent hours struggling with this, it transpired that the machine was faulty and had to go back.

Very disappointing - but see update

Norm the music, Amazon
15 July 2007
  • Summary: I can't agree with the other reviews - I think this GPS is very disappointing. The problem is it's ability to receive signals, the slightest obstruction and it loses signal. I've not found this with other GPS's which I've borrowed. It's great on the top of a hill, but elsewhere it's frankly useless.

  • Conclusion: Hasta ahora total falta de confiabilidad, no tengo motivos para recomendàrselo a nadie . .
