Summary: This GPS isn't anything too fancy. It's pretty basic, really. You punch in a set of coordinates and it takes you there. It marks coordinates, tells you when sunrise and sunset is, and a few other little things. I bought it primarily for two purposes. Search and Rescue, and Geocaching. I am a member of a Search and Rescue team in Washington State. I use this unit to track where I have been and to get to locations during a search.
Summary: this is my first gps. got it for geocaching. it's easy to download the caches from geocaching.com and easy to download any others from the included software. seems pretty rugged and navigating through the menus is simple. I wish it had more space to write notes in the waypoint/geocache note area. also, it gets you to the general area of the cache, but you still may be a good 30-40 feet away on some. wish it had more detailed maps, but it does have the main highways.
Summary: got this unit to use for hiking, biking, runs, etc and such received it fairly fast though had few day delay due to carrier error but no big deal. just now playing with it to figure out how it works but came with LOTS of good info and a separate drivers cd that you don't need but is good to have. Has nice belt clip and lanyard as accessories which is great.
Superb product, great for that geocaching adventure!

Summary: Bought this product for geocaching. Haven't learned all the ins and outs of it yet. I really enjoy the ability to download directly from computer to GPS. In the field it has performed well, very accurate. I have nothing to compare it to. All my friends use the same GPS, and I've never heard any complaints. Now I just need to learn how to load manually. Only fault I have is with the manual.
Summary: There is a steep learning curve associated with this unit. The instruction manuals for it and the included Mapsource software are very inadequate and incomplete. Expect to spend hours experimenting - unless you have a knowledgeable mentor to guide you. Initially I was unable to transfer data from the unit to my computer - error message said there was an incorrect waypoint <""> which did not in fact exist.
Summary: I bought the venture hc to replace an older Etrex Legend (monochrome screen). The Venture hc is perfect for geocaching in urban and day hike wilderness areas. It does not have all the bells & whistles of the more expensive units, but it does what it's designed to do very well. The purchasing process was easy and quick and the quality of the product itself is excellant. The GPS was put to use right out of the box and has been in service for aprox.
Summary: I am very happy with the overall performance of this unit. However, be aware that the maps shown in all illustrations do not come with the unit and must be purchased separately. Further more, these maps are almost as expensive as the GPS! The maps included with the unit show minimal detail with only major roads, towns, and bodies of water. The GPS obtains satellites very quickly and does a marvelous job of showing tracks.
Summary: This thing aquires satellite signals FAST and it holds the signals well. It's a good bang for the buck. The display is colorful and is easier to read than the older models. Data entry is a bit awkward but tolerable. There are features on it I never use, but the basic navagation use is quite adequate. My son liked mine so much that I bought him one for hiking in the Smokies. I use mine primarily on my boat.
