Like and dislikes

pappyjbf, Ebay
5 April 2009
  • Summary: Really like colored screen, shows up in daylight good. The manual leaves a lot to be desired assuming you know all about GPS's in general. Was hoping the base map had mmore land features or topo included. Otherwise it does have many good features such as good time to hunt and fish as well as the moon phases etc.

Hand Held Garmin-eTrex Summit GPS Reciever

slewis1960, Ebay
9 September 2007
  • Summary: I was looking for an inexpensive hand held GPS unit to use for business ventures and to use while hiking in the mountains. I sought a Summit Unit after discovering that my brother already had one and a co-worker also had one and loved it. Since purchasing my eTrex Summit I have used it on vacation to determine the distance from home, our traveling speed and general direction of travel. I have also used it to record coordinate locations for work.

Altitude profile doesn't download

B. Farrant "nzbicycletours.com", Amazon
10 January 2003
  • Summary: I've checked this GPS out in the toughest test and I guess you get what you pay for, this model can display the profile for up to 25 miles on the screen , but when you download the data the profile is very hard to re create on the PC, I've tried using several kinds of download software and then Harvard Graphics or excel , with the same result, a horizontal scale problem.

eTrex Summit Fun, Forest Fires & Work too...

Tom, Amazon
30 April 2002
  • Summary: I bought my eTrex Summit for Forest Fire GPS mapping support. I knew I would get a +/- of 12'-20'and for most forest fire support this is acceptable to us. I also use it for the altimeter at our helicopter landing fields, once calibrated it seems to stay relative based on at least 100 meters from the cal point. It is great for recreation, has all the waypoint and track/route storage you will need. The "Geocaching" treks are great with this little gizmo.
