Summary: I have a 10 year old etrex garmin. I was always loosing the signal. This Legend HCx stays hoked up. It is great. I loaded the topo map from my computer onto the disc of the areas I hunt in and that makes it fun to navigate.
Summary: This thing is Amazing. Perfect size, simple to use and very economical. I got it for $100.00 Add a 4gb Micro SD Card and download free maps (Road and Topo), and you have a fine Adventure GPS. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY GARMIN MAPS.
Unit is Awesome. You must buy maps to release its power.

Summary: The unit is pretty nice and performs well even in covered areas. The only complaint is that the base map is VERY BASE and doesn't contain many roads other than highways and some rivers and town markers.
Summary: I had an older etrex vista and (fortunately) lost it. This one is light years improved. The battery lasts forever and once the signal is locked on you almost never lose it..even in deep woods or in your pocket. Easier to read, easier to use and doesn't have as many problems as the old etrexes.
Summary: I've been using a GPS to geocache for years. My previous Legend worked well, but would sometimes lose satellite reception in the woods. I am amazed how well the Legend HCx works. Even standing in the middle of a large evergreen, it maintains satellite reception. Automatic routing also works well.
Summary: I tested my new Garmin eTrex Legend HCx on a remote biking trail in West Virginia. Forget about cell phone service. You can't get cell phone service anywhere on the 80 mile trail. About 10 miles on the trail I stopped and turned on the eTrex.
Summary: My first GPS and it has lived up to my expectations of what a GPS can and should do. It powers on very quickly and locks in satellites fast, usually I can get a position in about 30 seconds or less.
Excerpt: Great GPS! Have used this on many many occasions. Plotted a 35 mile kayak trip down river with help of software and internet with relative ease. Tracked progress and trails for off-road park in NH.
Summary: I've used this GPS for many hikes for several months now. I've never had a problem with being unable to get a signal, the accuracy has been excellent, and even though the base map that it comes with is very low detail, there are numerous free base maps out there that have excellent resolution.
Summary: I took a lot of time making my decision which Garmin to buy for my hiking and boat ventures. I have owned Garmin GPS's for over 15 years. I talked to friends who purchased GPS's in the last couple of years. I read all the reviews I could find.
