Summary: Purchased the eTrex H for indicating speed and distance while working out in my kayak. Being waterproof was of prime concern. The eTrex is easy to use and worked great right out of the box. Links up to satellites quickly and operates flawlessly under a variety of weather and lighting conditions.
Summary: I purchased this model Etrex to use as backup GPS on my offshore fishing boat. It is difficuly to insert waypoints and to retrieve information. You will be much better served to by the Etrex about 2 grades above this model which is the least expensive. Spending the extra money will be worthwhile.
Summary: As a military reconnaissance officer I have used this GPS in several training scenarios in various conditions for about two months and the product has surpassed my expectations. While its functions are somewhat limited in contrast to the more advanced models, it is very durable and easy to use.
Summary: I am a "peakbagger" who has been using the Garmin Etrex H GPS for several years. I've never had a problem with signal loss, and have used it to bushwhack to and from numerous trail-less New England Hundred Highest Peaks--it has never let me down.
Summary: I have been GPS shopping for a loooong time! I am only 15 so my mom told me I shouldn't spend too much on a GPS, for I would only be using it for geocaching.... Let me just say this is a GREAT starting unit!
Summary: Bought this for locating our "secret" fishing spots. So "secret" it takes us hours to find them again!! Anyway bought this to eliminate the "hours" of hunting for the spot we caught them last time. THIS "THING" WORKS GREAT!!! My only regret is, that I waited so long to buy it!
Summary: I wanted a basic GPS, so I could find my position quickly and accurately when hiking. I wasn't interested in lots of bells and whistles. I wasn't looking for a car navigation system, and didn't need downloadable maps, or a built in compass.
Summary: Like many folks these days, I've run into difficult financial times, and was dreading have to replace my eight-year-old Garmin eTrex Vista. Based on knowledgeable-sounding customer reviews I decided to take a chance on a "downgrade" to this model, and so far believe I made the right choice.

Summary: After almost getting lost on a night hike I wanted a GPS. I tried to use my Iphone 3GS but it wouldn't pick up the satellites under the trees in the Pacific Northwest forests. Plus, I had it in my pocket and fell on it, luckily I didn't break it.
