A simple GPS for hiking

JT, Amazon
18 May 2012
  • Summary: I bought the Garmin eTrex H mainly for hiking. It picks up satellite signals fast, usually in less than 45 seconds in open areas, with ten to eleven satellite signals. The accuracy is about 10 to 15 feet. The backtracking is pretty accurate that provides a safety sense that I would not get lost in the wild. Of course, a compass and a map are needed just in case. The eTrex H is very comfortable in the hand with no rough corners. It has a quality feel.

Very Pleased with the GREAT DEAL

M. Waddill "Highway Pilgrim", Amazon
5 January 2012
  • Summary: My main consideration in making this purchase was the low price offered on sale. I was aware that this was an older model of GPS receiver and did not offer maps on the screen. I use paper maps and a compass and have a strong memory for details I have studied before venturing afield. Note: not sure why it lists "3.5 and 5 inch disks" because these are not included. There is no need for them either. The purpose for which I purchased this was to use in GEO-CACHING.

Good intro gps for geocaching and great value

fishfever, Ebay
9 July 2011
  • Summary: I purchased 9 of these for my high school students to use for an intro geocaching/gps class. They are inexpensive, relatively easy to use with minimal instruction, and the battery life has been good. The accuracy may not be as good as some other units, but usually get us within 15 feet of the desired waypoint in our area. They do tend to jump around in heavier cover, like pine trees. For the money they have been great units for geocaching.

Enough basic GPS Receiver

g7s6lh, Ebay
9 February 2011
  • Summary: Basic. However, an enough function. "high sensitivity GPS chip." It is expect in the forests. It becomes a good guide in the mountain where the road is indistinct. The direction of the compass screen and the map screen changes round and round. It is inconvenient for trekking. It continues by eneloop for 17 hours or more. However, the power supply often does OFF once while moving. The connection with PC is RS232C. A special cable is necessary.

not all the confusing options, does what it needs to.

ladysmack, Ebay
12 January 2011
  • Summary: compact light easy operation as long as the satelites don't crash in to one another or a sun phart. This GPS should work acceptable. I like it so far but haven't been able to a field test.

GPS Receiver - no frills basic GPS

striperpassion, Ebay
7 January 2011
  • Summary: I bought it to locate locations that are given in coordinates. It is a great deal for the price. It is basic with little to know conveniences. Dislikes: You have to go through a series of steps for each and every way point to get to the next way point (a pain). The buttons are rather hard to press. But all in all, it works for a low price and that's what I needed.
