Flawed Packaging

Three Houses, Amazon
20 April 2009
  • Summary: I have purchased both an Etrex Summit and an Etrex H. Both have similar packaging that failed in the same 2 ways. 1 the flexible band that surrounds the body, with the bumps that you press on to navigate menus, unsticks and slides out of position, then eventually comes right off.

Confusing description

123, Amazon
20 April 2009
  • Summary: The product did not come with any type of data transfer cable. Not for people who are geocacheing in the 21st century. And the type of cable that is required does not have a usb so an adapter would be needed if the computer does not have a serial port.

Falls short for a mariner

Kindle Customer, Amazon
20 April 2009
  • Summary: The eTrex H was purchased for use on a sail boat, specifically to help fix the boat's position for use with charts. My criticism is that the display of latitude and longitude is done with a very small font on the display, making it difficult to read quickly.

If your safety depends on it, forget this GPS.

Whodathotit, Amazon
20 April 2009
  • Summary: I have had this new high sensitivity Garmin GPS for seven months and have used it perhaps a half dozen times. Today I was laying "bread crumb" tracks on a hike for about three hours. The Sanyo Eneloop NiMH cells were freshly charged. I set the GPS down, antenna up, while I ate a snack.

User Review

Walmart
17 August 2008
  • Summary: This unit might be fine for someone who always knows where they are going but I want a bit more from my GPS. It basically only tells you your actual position on the earth. There are no maps loaded to it and none can be loaded. Other than that, it functioned well.

Up to recently I used a GPS 60, mainly for geocaching.

Trailspace.com
8 May 2008
  • Excerpt: Up to recently I used a GPS 60, mainly for geocaching. My review is based on the comparison of these two GPS tools. Pro for eTrex-H: 1) Indeed very sensitive. Even in buildings and in the jungle a GPS signal is received. 2) Low price. Contra: 1) Waypoints have names of maximum only 6 characters.
