Summary: I'll keep this brief. This Garmin is just great the only reason I give it 3 stars is because the heart rate monitor that is shown here did not come with my order. In my eyes that is mis- representation.
Summary: I like it. Its a Garmin. This is my wife's unit. We did a super hilly 62 mile ride and this unit totally lost it. The ride file was unusable and email to Garmin never got a reply. Wife is not a data nut so she was OK with this one loss. It really would have bothered me.
Garmin Edge 500 Cycling GPS and Support Issue When it Stops Working
Lark Birdsong, Amazon
29 June 2014
Summary: I like the Garmin Edge 500 when it works yet after 3 months it stopped working and won't read the display anymore. I have gone to Garmin support website and input information to replace/repair. The email response is that I will be contacted in no more than 3 days.
Summary: Unless you're a data freek the Garmin 500 is going to be a frustrating device to set up. The instructions are no good. They don't help at all actually. It took me over an hour, with a engineer friend, to set this thing up before I could start using it!
Summary: Very happy with gps except that I cannot upload on my home computer. I have a newer computer with 3.0 USB ports and they are not compatible with Garmin storage divices that are using the old 2.0 port speeds. This would have been nice to know before purchasing this unit for obvious reasons.
Summary: I can't believe I never put up a review for the Edge, probably because there are hundreds of reviews for the 500 already, and it's already been replaced by the 510. This Amazon page is specifically for the HR premium bundle, so I suppose I can speak to that.
Summary: Be aware that you have to charge your battery after every ride which is a pain and I have no clue why this is required with an Ant- system Garmin could do more to improve.Otherwise reliable and gives good information. Not too fancy, small and you can download the data.
Summary: Lots of touted features, but this is the most buggy and unreliable bike computer I've ever used. It's like Garmin stuffed more features than a unit this size could handle. Sort of reminds me of an MS Windows OS - crash here, crash there, corrupt files/operation, etc.
Pros: Smaller size
Cons: Corruptable files Training Center no longer supported Intermittent operation HR function doesn't always work Calorie count is nowhere close to accurate in comparison to bonehead calculations
Summary: I bought the Edge 500 on the recommendation of my trainer who wanted me to monitor my heart rate and cadence. The unit performs these functions very accurately. In fact, the unit performs everything reliably and I've had no problem with it.
