This Garmin is just great the only reason I give it 3 stars is ...

George j Gilles, Amazon
15 November 2014
  • Summary: I'll keep this brief. This Garmin is just great the only reason I give it 3 stars is because the heart rate monitor that is shown here did not come with my order. In my eyes that is mis- representation.

I like it. Its a Garmin

James L, Amazon
4 September 2014
  • Summary: I like it. Its a Garmin. This is my wife's unit. We did a super hilly 62 mile ride and this unit totally lost it. The ride file was unusable and email to Garmin never got a reply. Wife is not a data nut so she was OK with this one loss. It really would have bothered me. That said it has only lost the one ride and she rides several times per week.

Excellent device - poor software

T. Goddard, Amazon
2 September 2014
  • Summary: As with earlier Cycling devices, this unit itself is excellent, however the software is so bad that if a first semester programming student submitted it for homework they would be given an F. If you are using your own computer to store your data, under no circumstances update your old Training Center application - All your old rides will be deleted, and there is no way to import your backup into the updated version.

Garmin Edge 500 Cycling GPS and Support Issue When it Stops Working

Lark Birdsong, Amazon
29 June 2014
  • Summary: I like the Garmin Edge 500 when it works yet after 3 months it stopped working and won't read the display anymore. I have gone to Garmin support website and input information to replace/repair. The email response is that I will be contacted in no more than 3 days. It is now 5 days and no one has contacted me so I can return with a RMA number. It is great if it works yet getting support and a quick return has been problematic.

good but not compatible with new USB ports

Wayne, Amazon
3 January 2014
  • Summary: Very happy with gps except that I cannot upload on my home computer. I have a newer computer with 3.0 USB ports and they are not compatible with Garmin storage divices that are using the old 2.0 port speeds. This would have been nice to know before purchasing this unit for obvious reasons. Not very practical when you can't upload to any performance tracking websites.

Good for collecting data on your bike rides

Anne Valta, Amazon
3 January 2014
  • Summary: Unless you're a data freek the Garmin 500 is going to be a frustrating device to set up. The instructions are no good. They don't help at all actually. It took me over an hour, with a engineer friend, to set this thing up before I could start using it! But once they're set, it's kind of fun to collect all that data on your rides.

Sometimes Acts Strange 5 stars when functioning correctly.

DoctorRock, Amazon
15 November 2013
  • Summary: I wish I could give this a 5 star rating, but I lost 5 rides of over 30 miles this year - Just no data recorded, which is strange, since it would give me MPH and what not while I was riding. I've updated software, but this thing just acts funky sometimes. I don't really know why this is. WHEN IT WORKS - it's a 5 star product. It's waterproof, accurate, and compact. The heartrate monitor and cadence sensor are great and work well, and it's a blast crunching the data.

Love my Edge 500, Hate the Marketing BS.

Ryan, Amazon
17 September 2013
  • Summary: I can't believe I never put up a review for the Edge, probably because there are hundreds of reviews for the 500 already, and it's already been replaced by the 510. This Amazon page is specifically for the HR premium bundle, so I suppose I can speak to that. Let me first say, that I love my Edge 500. I don't need the new wireless crap in the 510, I like the smaller size, I don't want touchscreen, it does everything I need.

It,s ok

analyst1946, Amazon
14 September 2013
  • Summary: Be aware that you have to charge your battery after every ride which is a pain and I have no clue why this is required with an Ant- system Garmin could do more to improve.Otherwise reliable and gives good information. Not too fancy, small and you can download the data. Buy the cheaper version in blue or black the red one just measures some data which nobody will use ,save your money.

Reasonable Interface

Ronni Ayoung, Amazon
6 January 2013
  • Summary: Coming from experience with iPhone base cycling apps the Edge 500's interface seemed a little "clunky" but nevertheless provided the majority of the data and functionality required.
