Summary: So here is the issue with this device...which is a huge deal breaker. It simply doesn't sample frequently enough to have any usefulness on a mountain bike. Any switchback or tight turn is basically "cut off" by the device due to the infrequent sampling. Some of the higher end Garmin models have the option to sample every 1 second, which greatly improves accuracy...this model does not. Some specific examples after my weekend of study.
Summary: At times difficult locating GPS signals and holding the signals on bike paths. Frustrating when your depending on the unit for distance and speed and it drops the signal. Would recommend utility type GPS which tends to have more signals available to maintain contact. Did numerous master reboots to program in new GPS locations to no avail per contact with Garmin.
Summary: Garmin went to far in cutting features to get people to spend at least 4100 or more for the next higher up model. You can't even see what time it is. Kind of an important thing to know. I suppose they haven't learned from smartphones eating their car GPS lunch. Replaced with a case for my iPhone which gives me far more features at a third of the cost.
