Very good, especially for the money.

Bert D Anderson, Amazon
8 June 2010
  • Summary: The Dakota 10 is a good product. I've quite a bit of experience with numerous different types of GPS, handheld and otherwise, and I am very happy with this unit. There are marine chartplotters that are clearly far superior to these, but as far as handheld units, this one is a great value and has...

Great backup or GPS to use to introduce newbies.

GeneMoser, Amazon
8 June 2010
  • Summary: I bought this as a back up for my Garmin map 62S and it has performed very well. As a rule the two are in proximity to each other when used for geocaching. Its size and weight make it ideal for what I intend to use it for.

Geocaching with Garmin

over60, Amazon
8 June 2010
  • Summary: Liked this GPS unit very much, only function it lacked ( that I wanted ) was an electronic compass. After a few days use I returned it and bought the Dakota 20 with the electronic compass. Only reature I would add to the Garmin products would be a rechargable battery.

Good Geocaching GPS

Scorpion Patrol, Amazon
8 June 2010
  • Summary: I like the paperless caching. Accuracy is not as good as the 60Cx but is much better than the E-Trex. The maps (which cost extra) are not as good as the Delorme PN 30 (which comes with it), but the battery life is much better.

Only problem....unit's compass needle.

Brad, Amazon
8 June 2010
  • Summary: I really like this unit but didn't give it 5 stars because when navigating to a waypoint the GPS compass often jumps around erratically. I understand that the unit needs to get its bearings and that the satellite reception is going to be in and out while navigating through the woods but I have had...

Easiest to use handheld yet

Warren Merrill, Amazon
13 December 2009
  • Summary: I recently decided to start spending some time geocaching with my son. I finally settled on either the Geomate, Jr., the Garmin Dakota, Garmin Oregon or DeLorme PN-40. I asked questions at forums, looked at on-line reviews, checked out the ones I could find in stores (Oregon and PN-20) and finally...
