Accurate, easy to use, and cheap!

cliptwings09, Ebay
7 December 2010
  • Summary: The Garmin Dakota 10 is one of my favorite GPS receivers. It is very accurate, dependable, easy to use, and has all the features I look for in a paperless geocaching GPS. It is also the cheapest machine you can buy for displaying topographic and satellite images, which gives you so much information about your whereabouts. It is also small, with a touch screen that is easy to use by small hands.

Garmin Dakota 20 GPS receiver

orangecrush1962, Ebay
29 November 2010
  • Summary: Though the title says Dakota 10, it was a Dakota 20 I purchased. I purchased used off ebay with receipts showing it not even a month old. Other than using GPS's in smart phones and the like, I don't have a lot of experience with necc. features. I did a fair amount of research and based on reviews like this one, features and pricing, I went with the Dakota 20 GPS unit. The unit is small enough to put in your pocket, it's waterproof and easy to read.

Geocaching with Garmin

over60, Amazon
19 November 2010
  • Summary: Liked this GPS unit very much, only function it lacked ( that I wanted ) was an electronic compass. After a few days use I returned it and bought the Dakota 20 with the electronic compass. Only reature I would add to the Garmin products would be a rechargable battery.

  • Summary: This is my favorite GPS to have owned. It is user friendly but can do alot of complicated work when needed. There is the best friend to any Geocacher and make for a party all on it's own.

Good Geocaching GPS

Scorpion Patrol, Amazon
18 May 2010
  • Summary: I like the paperless caching. Accuracy is not as good as the 60Cx but is much better than the E-Trex. The maps (which cost extra) are not as good as the Delorme PN 30 (which comes with it), but the battery life is much better.

Have to buy software to use this!

T-mo customer, Amazon
6 May 2010
  • Summary: The map this unit comes with is VERY basic! It has only major highways. So right out of the box this unit is useless for any type of navigation, especially outdoors. Garmin wants you to buy maps from them! Even though you can find them and download some for free, you have to buy software like Mapsource to install those maps! Now why would you pay this much money for a device that is completely useless out of the box???

Great concept, horrendous reliability, poor accuracy.

Amazon
26 January 2010
  • Summary: Before I even start: A lot of times when one reads a critical review they try to dismiss it; the reviewer is an idiot, just had bad luck, has an axe to grind with the company, or just likes writing negative reviews. I can assure you that this is the first seriously negative review I've ever written in my life and I've been around for a while.
