Accurate, easy to use, and cheap!

cliptwings09, Ebay
7 December 2010
  • Summary: The Garmin Dakota 10 is one of my favorite GPS receivers. It is very accurate, dependable, easy to use, and has all the features I look for in a paperless geocaching GPS. It is also the cheapest machine you can buy for displaying topographic and satellite images, which gives you so much information about your whereabouts. It is also small, with a touch screen that is easy to use by small hands.

Garmin Dakota 20 GPS receiver

orangecrush1962, Ebay
29 November 2010
  • Summary: Though the title says Dakota 10, it was a Dakota 20 I purchased. I purchased used off ebay with receipts showing it not even a month old. Other than using GPS's in smart phones and the like, I don't have a lot of experience with necc. features. I did a fair amount of research and based on reviews like this one, features and pricing, I went with the Dakota 20 GPS unit. The unit is small enough to put in your pocket, it's waterproof and easy to read.

Geocaching with Garmin

over60, Amazon
19 November 2010
  • Summary: Liked this GPS unit very much, only function it lacked ( that I wanted ) was an electronic compass. After a few days use I returned it and bought the Dakota 20 with the electronic compass. Only reature I would add to the Garmin products would be a rechargable battery.

  • Summary: This is my favorite GPS to have owned. It is user friendly but can do alot of complicated work when needed. There is the best friend to any Geocacher and make for a party all on it's own.

Tough little GPS

M. tusa "daredchef", Amazon
2 June 2010
  • Summary: I was skeptical about the Dakota 10 by Garmin because it lacked the SD card port and also lack of compass, but I found that the memory was more then sufficient. I've loaded (being piggish) the entire West Coast topo maps + marine Maps + Navigator city in this unit and no problems. Also my 4 year old managed to get her hands on it and dropped it in the dishwasher when her mom was not looking - and it worked fine after a full wash cycle, very impressive for the little...

Good Geocaching GPS

Scorpion Patrol, Amazon
18 May 2010
  • Summary: I like the paperless caching. Accuracy is not as good as the 60Cx but is much better than the E-Trex. The maps (which cost extra) are not as good as the Delorme PN 30 (which comes with it), but the battery life is much better.

Love this little unit

Greg, Amazon
13 May 2010
  • Summary: I at first hesitated to buy this GPS unit. I was one of the first people to buy a Colorado when they came out and I was so disappointed with that unit for Geocaching that I sent it back and lost $50 on restock. So when I saw this unit come out I was not sold. When the GPS came in I took it along side my trusty GPSmap 60CSX to the mountains of Western North Carolina. I fired up both units before we left on a 6 mile 1700 elevation hike.
