My Dakota 20

kcdave, Amazon
27 March 2011
  • Summary: Ease of Use Gave it 2 star mainly for the screen resolution and brightness. The maps look ok, once I purchased a 24K map, but the menu and text is VERY grainy. Text font is hard to read. Even with the brightness turned up all the way its very hard for me to read the screen. It seems better if I get it in direct sunlight. Portability Gave it 4 stars. I love the size, shape and overall design. This thing fits in my pocket. The Delorme would not.

Garmin Dakota 10

Theron C. Hall, Amazon
24 March 2011
  • Summary: The Garmin Dakota 10 is a fantastic color touch screen GPS. It is small enough to stuff in your pocket and yet big enough so that you can adequately see the screen. The only downfall to this product as far as I can see is that the compass feature is amongst the icons but is inactive in this model. For this feature Garmin wants you to pay more and buy the Garmin 20. It would have been nicer if it was available as a down loadable upgrade in my opinion.

  • Summary: Took some time to get it set up with all the maps, etc and figure out how to operate some of the stuff. But I love it and take it everywhere! Its a great investment as a forestry student and an avid bicyclists and hiker. With both topo and city maps it makes a great navigator. The Geo caching is awesome and I love the adventure of finding treasure and will put together my own geo caches this spring. Awesome product!

Pleasantly surprised.

Jon Mohr, Amazon
21 March 2011
  • Summary: I bought this GPS after searching through options based on price and availability. I can honestly say I feel I made the right choice. Having never owned any GPS automotive or otherwise this thing was a little tricky to learn the ins and outs. Installing the software and uploading the maps was routine, but the interface on the maps program was where I had a bit of trouble being used to google maps. The battery life is stellar using lithium batteries.

Big improvement over Etrex Vista

David L. Johnson, Amazon
2 February 2011
  • Summary: When my previous GPS, an Etrex Vista CX, was so badly beat up that it was unusable, I had to get a new GPS. After some detours, I ended up with the Dakota 10 and love it. I use the GPS for biking and driving, and occasionally for walking. The Dakota 10 is much quicker at finding satellites than the Vista, seems (so far) to be able to find its position where the vista could not, such as in low valleys, cities, and even indoors (not that you need it there...).

Accurate, easy to use, and cheap!

cliptwings09, Ebay
7 December 2010
  • Summary: The Garmin Dakota 10 is one of my favorite GPS receivers. It is very accurate, dependable, easy to use, and has all the features I look for in a paperless geocaching GPS. It is also the cheapest machine you can buy for displaying topographic and satellite images, which gives you so much information about your whereabouts. It is also small, with a touch screen that is easy to use by small hands.

Garmin Dakota 20 GPS receiver

orangecrush1962, Ebay
29 November 2010
  • Summary: Though the title says Dakota 10, it was a Dakota 20 I purchased. I purchased used off ebay with receipts showing it not even a month old. Other than using GPS's in smart phones and the like, I don't have a lot of experience with necc. features. I did a fair amount of research and based on reviews like this one, features and pricing, I went with the Dakota 20 GPS unit. The unit is small enough to put in your pocket, it's waterproof and easy to read.
