Summary: I bought the Garmin Dakota 10 for as much as the Dakota 20 sells for now :( but that is the price for being 'first on your block' yes in hindsight I think the 20 may be worth the extra money but for me the D-10 is really cool along with loaded street software I can plan routes on the Garmin website and it takes me on bike rides to areas turn by turn.
Summary: So far the Dakota 10 is everything I hoped for. I am a big fan of geocaching and being a paperless unit, Great. I think the thing that sets off the Garmin from others is Battery life. I actually bought a different brand and it works great for caching and it is paperless, but it doesn't have the battery life and some of the features that the Dakota has. I bought the Dakota 10 refurbished for half the cost and works great.
Summary: I was torn between the Magellan Explorist GC & the Garmin Dakota 10, and upon reading reviews I sprang for the Garmin, boy did I make the right choice! This unit locks on satellites IN THE HOUSE usually in less than 10 seconds! WOW! Paperless geocaching is very easy to do on this unit, and saves a lot of time planning a trip.
Summary: the main reason i bought this model garmin dakota10 gps was the price,i was comparing prices online and walmart.com price for this unit was 145. 00,cabelas,bestbuy,basspro,and several others were 245.00 and higher for the same thing, the price since then has gone back up.only tried the garmin out one time but seems to work fine, i didnt want to spend a lot for a gps nor do i need a lot of features, this is the second hand held gps i have owned, the first was a magellan,it...
Summary: I purchased this little GPS after becoming sick and tired of getting turned around scouting and hunting public property. This GPS has the ability to be everything you could ever need and more. You can download Topographic Maps, Public Land Maps, and Bird's Eye View Maps onto it. You can also choose to stack all of your map layers on top of each other which is very interesting and useful. This GPS eats batteries though.
Summary: For the average outdoorsman who doesn't want to take a class to learn how to use their unit, this is the "real deal" !! Inexpensive, small, bright color screen and self explanatory with the "touch screen" !! I absolutely love it....FANTASTIC !!
Summary: This unit does not have a SD memory slot. This limits the type of maps available to use. This is not explained to well with the product description. Garmin is too proprietary and I wasted a lot of time learning this.
Summary: I've owned several different GPS handheld units and this has been the easiest and user friendly one yet. For the price you get so many different features and abilities. I use mine for Geocaching; and with the intergration with the website this unit is perfect for it. This handheld is worth way more than the price and you'll be happy with your purchase.
