Summary: I was on a "174 yard" par 3, I had played for years, teeing right at the yardage marker. A fellow player had one of these and said, "It's 190 to the center". Pulled out my 5 wood and landed within 4 feet of the hole. Then ordered one the next day. It's simple. If playing on an older course, the yardages are much, much more accurate than the markers. On newer courses that may twist and turn a lot, it's also much more accurate than the markers.
Summary: I just want to know the distance to the front, middle, and back of the greens. I glance at my wrist and know the distance to the green. This watch does the job well. It is actually a watch also & one can easily switch from the time to the distances. It charges quickly after a round. It also has an alarm, which I have found helpful at times. It can serve as an odometer. I recently used it to figure out how far I walked during a round, which was 6 miles.
Summary: This is exactly what I needed in a golf GPS watch. The yardages are spot on, it looks good and the battery actually lasts a full round. I looked at the S2 and the S3 but at the end of the day decided it was not worth the extra money to just get dogleg distances and be able to keep score on my watch. My firend has the S3 and its a great looking watch but he stiurggles to get a full round out of the battery.
Summary: The Garmin S1 has taken several strokes off my game and made me more confident in my club selection. It is really unnecessary when I am over 200 yards from the pin, as long as there are no lateral hazards between me and the pin. Laser range finders have an advantage there since they allow for better estimation for lay-ups and other course management. However, inside 150 yards, this tool is magic!
Summary: This watch is doing everything I'd expected it to do. My yardage is very accurate on each shot at each of the 3 local courses I've played since buying it, and it's really cool not having to have a separate piece of equipment to get yardage or having to look for yardage markers on the course. I would definitely buy this again.
