Summary: I used the SkyCaddie for about 5 years and every time I had to fight with their unfriendly software to download a new course (or discovered I'd forgotten to download the new course when I arrived) I thought there had to be a better way. Once I did the download the SkyCaddie worked fine on the course, but it was always a problem trying to figure out their abbreviations if I wanted to know distances to hazards.
Summary: A friend had one, and loved it. Found all the course he will play when he goes to Ireland. Can't hold laser range finder steady enough to hold on the flag. Checked available courses and found every course I play. Evan a little 9 hole Par 3. Only problem was that they changed the name a year ago so, I went back to the old name and found it. Plugged it in and gave it a full charge when it arrived. Have played five 9 hole rounds at approx. two hours each.
Summary: The G6 works pretty darn good, distances compare well when I range a target to compare readings. A little awkward to move the cursor for intermediate distance and on greens but doable. Picks up satellite almost immediately on home course and pretty quickly at others, always ready before the 1st hole.
Summary: I have used my Garmin Approach G6 golf GPS in North Carolina, Rhode Island and Maryland and each time the golf course was easy to find, distance to bunkers, front and back of green was reliable. It took me a couple of minutes to understand the basic features. I now feel that I can go to any course and be able to choose the right club for most shots even if it is the first time playing that course. I highly recommend the Garmin Approach G6.
Summary: will not make you play better golf , but will give good info on how far it is to trouble plus it helps keep score.has all the courses we play on it and if theirs one we haven't played i can get one up by checking the course on this the night before.
Summary: Perfect for clipping the Approach to your golf bag when walking a course. If you are planning to use it clipped to your belt loop, the display will be upside down when viewing it, unless you remove the unit each time from the clip. I prefer one of the Braketron units for electric cart use, however.
