Summary: Great Golf GPS. I had a Callaway uPro that I dropped and broke. Callaway has gotten out of the golf GPS business so I had to find something else. I thought about the wrist watch type of GPS but I don't like wearing a watch when I golf. The Garmin G6 does everything I need and the battery life is outstanding. I have played two rounds (over two days) on one charge and it still had over 50% of the battery life left. The uPro could only do one round.
Summary: I previously had a U-pro Callaway GPS. I had nothing but problems! When I switched to the Garmin, I couldn't believe how the rest of the golfers lived! WOW! This GPS is reliable, finds the course immediately, and is accurate compared to rangefinders. The cursor moves easily to the actual hole position. The measure your shot feature is neat, but a little depressing at times (if you know what I mean) for a 60's plus player. I can get 2 rounds of golf with it.
Summary: Saw some complaints versus the G6 but think G7 is worth the extra $50: better styling (like the white) and you can turn off/don't use the iron selection and actual play distance features if you're in a tournament. If not in a tourney, great to see actual play-like distance along with measured distance. I took a look at the G6 in stores and G7 seemed to have better graphics and better fit in hand.
Summary: Both the G6 and the folks at In The Hole were great. The screen is too small to use the touch screen feature accurately. However, the unit gives enough information that I don't have to use that feature anyway.
Summary: I have played about 10 rounds with this GPS and I am ALMOST 100% completely satisfied with it. I only have one small complaint and that is the battery is only good for about 27-32 holes. I havnt been able to make it through 2 full rounds with out it shutting off. But, with the included wall/USB charger I can plug it into my truck USB slot and get a quick charge between rounds if possible. Otherwise this baby is awesome.
Conclusion: Just used my G6 for the first time and I absolutely loved it. So many features other than just distances. Scoring, shot tracking, putts, GIR. The scoring feature includes course handicapping and even match play scoring, taking into account players handicaps. The units will keep scores for up to four people and you can review past rounds. The unit also includes automatic round playing time. Over 28000 courses are loaded in the device, so no monthly or yearly costs.
Summary: The Approach is an outstanding GPS unit. Has the features you need PLUS a number that you'd like to have. All for the right price ($50 rebate really helps). Intheholegolf.com was fast, convenient, and very price competitive. I will buy again form these folks.
