Summary: I called Garmin to try to increase the screen brightness but you cannot with this product. The tech at Garmin said to but ni-mh batteries and the screen would improve. So I purchased $26.00 worth of batteries and a charger. There was no difference in the screen brightness. I called back Garmin and they said that the previous tech was wrong. Garmin would do nothing to help me so I am stuck with a gps that you cannot read on the golf course.
Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT IF YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO READ THE SCREEN.TERRIBLE TO READ BOTH IN THE SUN AND ON A GRAY DAY.MAKES NO DIFFERENCE WITH OR WITHOUT SUN GLASSES.JUST CANT READ IT. ALSO THE MOUNT THAT GOES WITH IT -RAM MOUNTING SYSTEMS COMES IN 30 PIECES WITH NO DIRECTIONS FOR INSTALLATION.CALLS TO RAM WERE NOT HELPFUL.KEPT SAYING THEY DID NOT HAVE DIRECTIONS. SPENT OVER $3OO FOR GARMIN GPS AND MOUNT THAT ARE WORTHLESS.
Summary: The Approach G5 works very well IF YOUR COURSE IS LISTED! Have used my G5 and like it better than my sky caddie sg5. However, anyone interested in getting an Approach G5 should look very closely to see if the courses they want to play are listed! I didn't and have been waiting two months for Garmin to list my home course. I have sent Garmin several e-mails asking when my course will be listed and still don't have any idea!
Summary: Spent an hour or so in March 2014 updating the G5 I bought in September 2009 only to have it delete my previous program that worked, tell me "This device does not support one of the maps," erase my previous courses on Play, and show only a blank unresponsive screen on Preview, Find a Golf Course. So much for pricey gadgets that are inadequately supported after a couple years.
Summary: I had this for my birthday and played with it for the first time yesterday. It was a dull, rainy day and I couldn't read the screen. Today was a bright sunny day and we played again in a four ball. None of us could read the screen. It has some excellent features - the touch screen with the ability to indicate a point on the hole you wish to know the distance to is a brilliant idea - but if you can't see the hole well enough to find the point, then it is no use.
