Summary: Main problem was trying to read the screen on a sunny day. Too small of a screen. Found myself just looking and using the standard yard markers and leaving the Garmin in my pocket. Hassle for sure. Worked fine if your were sitting on the couch, and could read and use the functions.
Summary: Have only used it on my home course for 3 rounds but found it to be very helpful especially when in the rough or playing the hole from another fairway. Yardages seem to be very accurate. I see no issue with battery life. I have used 2500 nimh batteries as one of the recommended options and have gotten 3 rounds before having to recharge.
Summary: I have used a Sky Caddie 2.5 for 4 years and had been thinking about a Garmin for several months (no yearly fees!) After "test driving" a friend's Garmin Approach 5 I was hooked. I chose the G3 after much debate and ... I LOVE it! I play 5-7 rounds a week from May to Sept in MO and even in the bright sun the screen is clear and easy to see.
Summary: There was nowhere enough instructions on operation etc. included. It is still push some button and hope for the best. I would greatly appreciate some sort of instruction book so I can check battery level etc. Hope you pass this on to Garmin.
ADEQUATELY FUNCTIONAL,EASILY USED, BUT ENERGY EATER

Summary: As I related in my critique title, the G3 is useful for this "hacker" (20 hdcp). I use it primarily to ascertain distances to the green and disasters (i.e. creeks, trees, OB's, etc.), and for that use it is excellent especially when playing new courses without course knowledge. The significant dissatisfaction I have with it is its energy consumption. Forget normal alkaline AA batteries; they barely survived 18 holes.
Summary: I own a Garmin GPS and it operates very satisfactory & so I expected the same on the Golf GPS. Not so. It behaves in an erratic fashion. Sometimes accurate.....other times not. On one instance on completion of a hole it would not move forward to the next hole. I had to manually move it forward. On another occasion, the yardage to the green increased as I got closer!
Summary: The G3 does everything I need and is very easy to use. The "Measure Shot" feature helps find wayward tee shots as I know at what distance to look for the ball! No more guessing, distance to pin at a glance, all the info you need to pick the right club. Ordered on a Saturday, regular shipping, arrived Monday morning!!
Summary: This GPS is perfect for the casual golfer. The back like is a little dim, but is fine to see. The battery last about two rounds, so I suggest buying rechargeable batteries. This will save time and money on normal batteries. Garmin is a wonderful company and made a great product here.
