  • Excerpt: Very good unit. Great color screen, with the ability to upload maps. Waterproof, and drop proof. Only drawback is it eats the batteries.

Amazing unit for price. Slight Learning curve. Overall Excellent!!

  • Summary: Only reason it gets a 4/5 is simply because this is NOT a beginners GPS unit. This is my third one and definately the most complicated. I've continually upgraded through the ranks, but I believe that the PN-40 will serve every need I'll ever have! I did my homework and researched reviews and specs, very happy with the purchase. To those considering The Delorme PN-40, be sure you read reviews and understand that it does have a slight learning curve.

Good to Excellent GPS

  • Summary: The PN-40 does everything I need it to do. I use it primarily for kayaking trips. I typically put it in track mode and let it track my path. Later I upload the recorded GPX file into Google Earth to see my path. The screen is a bit small but very visible even in bright Florida sunlight. The unit has a full set of cool "extras" like moon phase, sun up and down times, tide charts, compass, and altimeter. Most every time I have used i get a 3D WAAS fix, accurate tracking.

Good for beginners..

  • Summary: I found this unit does have some quirks with software and battery life. if you can get around that it is a nice gps for beginners. I'm a newbie to GPS and only took me a week of playing with the unit to figure it all out. Really like the accuracy and ease of use buttons. The battery life is the biggest downfall. So if you don't mind going out with a few extra set of rechargables, you can have a great time using this unit in the outdoors.

Delorme PN-40

  • Summary: Fast GPS Signal. Easy to use handheld unit. Computer program is somewhat complex, but if you spend a few hours with it, you'll get it. Very Durable Unit. Creating Maps and Aerials and layers can be fun. I use it for hunting and fishing....works very well for those tasks. Haven't used it for Geocashing yet....but it seems like it would work great for that as well.

  • Summary: The learning curve is a little longer than I anticipated. The unit is fast, easy to calibrate and I've gotten a lot of maps loaded. I like the waterproof feature and simple AA batteries with good life.

  • Summary: Saw this at LLBean for $399 and wanted to get it for my husband, but it was too expensive. This is a top of the line GPS system. I was shocked to find it for $238 on walmart.com. Would recommend this unit; full color screen, great for camping, hiking, geocaching, etc!

  • Summary: This was a Christmas present and I hope it becomes a value tool as my nephew hikes and climbs in the Mountains and Foothills of Colorado and Utah. He seemed to love it when the gift was open.

Great GPSr and more!!

Walmart

  • Summary: I bought this unit for geocaching and it has lived up to everything I have asked it to do. I could have waited for the PN-60 but this was the right price. Add in the delorme map library package and really you shouldn't need anything else. Whats nice is that since Topo 9.0 is out I will get a free upgrade to that software. There are only a couple cons and that is battery life and a small screen but all the other features definitely make up for these shortcomings.
