Delorme BT-20

David M., Newegg
13 April 2009
  • Summary: I use the BT-20 with the FlightMaster GPS software when piloting. The BT-20 GPS receiver/bluetooth transmitter work flawlessly in the aircraft (VFR flying). The Earthmate software works well-enough on the ground.
  • Pros: Small, easily placed in vehicle on dashboard. It still maintained lock when it got knocked to the floor. Connects wirelessly to both Palm PDA and BlackBerry. Drives Google Map Mobile software (free) on BlackBerry. Software works well on Palm PDA and notebook, although is isn't very user friendly ...
  • Cons: Quirky user interface of Windows-based software (more user-hostile than it is user-friendly). Hard to learn.

Earthmate with Palm TX

Robert H., Newegg
3 August 2008
  • Summary: Everything works fine on a laptop except the routing was sometimes circular.
  • Pros: Provides good GPS positioning using Palm TX
  • Cons: Hoped to use this as a navigation device on my Palm TX. Can only load a map for 1 urban area at a time. Could not load all of southern CA at once. Takes 2 min or more to find an address. Routing or re-routing not practical on the Palm. Routes must be created on a PC and exported.
