Summary: ERRORS IN COBRA GPS MAPPING - My place of work, located on a dead-end, very narrow roadway, off the very END of this piece of Kansas Avenue, has been getting a LOT of unwanted truck traffic as a result of navigation errors in your Cobra GPS mapping database.
Summary: I like the fact that it is a GPS. I did not know much about the unit but needed something like this for backpacking. The price was good, but the item does not have a very good response and it is very slow. This GPS will get you out of the woods though.
Summary: Good durable GPS for hiking, boating, and stuff like that. Not so good for the road, frequent battery changes are a pain too. I have never tried connecting the GPS to a laptop, but I feel that it would be good for navigating.
Summary: The Cobra GPS 1000 came with all the extra's that Magellen want want you to pay for. Magellen wants $100.00 for their street level maps and not enough memory in the unit to down load it. The Cobra came with a SD card and the street level map software.
Summary: Like large screen and ability to make font LARGE. Downside is serial port (9 pin) connection. I don't have a computer with one of those anymore! Adapter cable caused problems. Not really compatible with Windows XP: Win98 anyone?
Summary: I purchased the Cobra 1000 GPS unit after looking into the equipment features and it's capabilities in their product literature. However, after I received it I found that the computer interface was a serial connection and not a standard USB which was not mentioned in the product literature.

Summary: I also bought this piece of #@%*. It's innacurate, and the maps don't synch from the software. If you download your tracks, then they show up as being at least a half block out of synch with the PC software. The maps----yes very old.
Summary: I used this as an inexperienced user of GPS systems. This was a good starter for me. I used it for geo-caching, hunting in the woods, and long trips as an in-car GPS system. It worked as well as I expected.
