Summary: I've owned a few "hiking" GPSs, but found them to be overly complicated. And I don't like having to re-read the manual every time I wanted to use them. This GPS is about as simple as it gets. The menus are few and fairly intuitive. My only gripe is that it does not have a "bread crumb" feature.
Bushnell Backtrack Point 5 Personal GPS for my son
David Mifsud, Amazon
12 March 2013
Summary: I bought this for my son who is a 9 year old adventurer as he is always wondering about whenever we go in the outdoors. My intention was that he does not get lost. The instrument is so precise. Works perfectly just a bit off when it points to orginial location.
Summary: My husband bought the Backtrack to use when going hunting or ice fishing. He hoped this device would help him to retrace his steps and get out of the woods at night. It is easy to use BUT does not work. He has owned it less than a year and only used it a few times.
Summary: We already own a mapping system, but this is a simpler, pocket-sized directional device. It's perfect for finding the way home while hiking, walking, or just finding your car in a large parking lot.
Summary: Well, we haven't fully tested it yet, but it seems to a good buy. It was bigger than I expected, but my husband pointed out that it made for a larger display. I tried buying it from Orvis & Eddie Bauer for Xmas at way more $, but they were continuously out of stock.
