Cons: Unit freezes, Routes are not the best choice a lot of times. Maps are terribly outdated and it appears that Alpine has no intentions to ever release an update, do I paid for a GPS that will never be updated. Time for a new one.
Summary: I have reason to believe that a firmware update would probably solve all my problems. Since I've recieve the unit (which was roughly two months ago) I've plugged the unit into the computer twice to check for possible undates. None have been found.
Pros: For it's actual price, this GPS unit is definitely feature rich. I have it run through my car stereo by utilizing the head phone jack. I love that my MP3's can play during travel and then the unit seemlessly lowers the volume and initiates verbal instructions. Also, by using the blue tooth functi...
Cons: The dock sometimes has considerable trouble linking to MSN direct. I don't use the feature often, so the problem isn't dramatic. Also, once in a while the unit freezes. The freeze is usually associated with some type of change occuring with the MP3 playback function. But sometimes it spontaneous ...
Pros: Very responsive touch. Excellent menu system. The MSN data connection is great. I would give this unit 5 stars except that the MSN service is being shutdown, which is the best reason to get this unit.
Cons: Sometimes the unit will delay for a few seconds while driving.
Summary: I didn't like the steps to go to a place in favorites. You hit the favorite, then are prompted to go to the co-ordinates, and then have to hit "begin navigating" . Why? Also, entering by street has been a dismal failure each time I tried it, if I enter by location THEN street, it picks up the route.
Pros: It's got the good lane change information, I like the alerts it gives for the upcoming turns. the map view changes for the way you see the nao is great, It's responsive, and it picks up the sats easily.
Cons: seriously outdated maps. The I-355 south extension is over two years old, and the Nuvi maps do contain it, the latest update for this alpine does not, the Navteq page does not list this device as supported, and there are no updates other than the one I got. Additionally, there are very few choice...
Summary: My unit got frozen twice the first day of usage. To resurrect it from the dead press simultaneously Reset button on the bottom and Down Arrow at the top. To get read of the annoying software bugs causing the effect, connect the unit by USB cable to a computer and follow the software update...
Pros: Does everything promised without compromises, cheap for its functionality and appearance. My wife is happy.
Summary: It gives good direction in both language (french and english...also has spanish) But it doesn't have my street (new street) but still i had to put a dot on the old street next to me has home... (btw my street isn't on google map yet...reference...) BUY THIS !!!
Pros: Love it (got 2 of them, 1 for my wife and one for me). It has the option to put the info in KM (instead of miles). It picks up my LG cell phone really quick when i get in the car (bluetooth). It has french vocal(great for the wife). Looks great and comes with everything you need.
Cons: Doesn't play movies (only mp3 with an SD card)...i guess its for security reason :)
Pros: Replaced Garmin Nuvi 255W. Alpine has FAR nicer display, is MORE accurate, and more features - although I don`t use them. Living in basically a holler, we dont have things like wifi and such. But as far as navigation goes, this unit is very capable. Plus it`s an ALPINE!
Cons: I miss the posted speed limit reminder from the Garmin, which is sadly missing from the Alpine. Maybe a software update? Glenn?
