Trouble from the beginning...Bad design
12 November 2014
Summary: I could never get this device to dock correctly and received no support from Alpine. It worked as a stand alone. Really disappointed me and I've always been a fan of alpine until this and the iv-w205 purchase. I do not recommend this.
Summary: I bought the Blackbird GPS as a package for my 2009 Itasca Horizon motorhome & now I find our Alpine is no longer servicing or providing updates for the unit. This really stinks! It is using Navteq map software I think. Does anyone know if updates are available.
Summary: Avoid this unit at all costs. No support and maps are now 4 to 5 years out of date with no update in sight. The unit has annoying glitches. Routing is terrible and you will find yourself taking the long way. Suggested routes make no sense. Alpine needs to give their head a shake on this one.
Summary: I too bought this GPS unit about 14 months ago to use with the IVA-W205. First off everything worked fine ( dock and roll), Bluetooth link with my blackberry were great. After about a year ( when warranty was done) I started having problems.
Summary: After two years of owning this I am more than ready to move on. The idea is outstanding, being able to have your incar GPS be your on the go gps without having to invest in multiple devices. Unfortunately Alpine really failed to full execute their idea.
Summary: Ok, the gps works fine in my car, I rarely have to reboot and it's really no big deal when I do. I really like it when it can find where I want to go. The problem is the attributes and features are way out of date (as of 5/13/09).
Summary: Installed mine in a 2001 Toyota sequoia with a IVA-W205 April 2009. Bluetooth works great with my Verizon Samsung phone with people telling me they can hear me clearly and I can hear them clearly also. I have never had it reboot nor have I had to reboot it.
Summary: Got it when it first came out last summer, so far ive had to reboot it maybe 5x in the last year. never had it reboot by itself. Works great in the alpine reciever, BT works good with my samsung phone(sucked with my LG). Have not tried the FM TX, or the SD music.
Summary: I bought this GPS unit about 8 months ago to use with the IVA-W205 head unit that I've had for about 10 months. I love the clean OEM look you get by having the unit dock inside of the stereo and that was really the main reason I went with Alpine, that and I've always loved Alpines products.
Summary: was not reliable. had to reboot constantly. it is very bulky and will not easily fit in a bag or pocket. same price as a low end laptop!!!! get a tomtom one 3rd edt or anything else but dont buy this.
