Buy at your own risk

Joseph P., Newegg

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: I purchased two SonicWall TZ215 units for two locations. After installation we found that they slow our Internet connection by around 40%, increase web page load times, streaming videos stall, Etc. and the TZ215 units need to be manually rebooted every few days or we lose Internet access. This is...

Robert K., Newegg

  • Summary: Solid device for SOHO.
  • Pros: Very easy to configure. VPN setup is easy. Interface is relatively intuitive.
  • Cons: Many of the advanced features need to be licensed for extra $$$ which can be annoying, but I knew this as I have used multiple sonicwalls.

Great Firewall

Anonymous, Newegg
12 September 2013
  • Summary: I've set up many of these TZ units for small to medium sized businesses as well as for my own network. I've been fortunate to have worked with them many times but they are not for the faint of heart. One unit has 10 VPN tunnels and has had zero issues. Very stable. I wont buy anything else.
  • Pros: High end UTM firewall that is easy to configure, rock solid VPN performance, and a ton of features.
  • Cons: Haven't experienced any yet. Not a problem for me but there is no documentation on how to configure these things. Luckily, I've had a lot of experience with them.

  • Cons: the older tz series sucks the lowest i would get is the 200 or 205 even then you can see your internet performance slow down

Stunning Firewall

Jason V., Newegg
5 October 2012
  • Summary: I've been a heavy DD-WRT user for years; this was the next step in true control over my networks. Would highly recommend this to anyone who has outgrown DD-WRT on desktop-class routers.
  • Pros: Everything you could ever want in a firewall and more. Customizable to the nth degree, this firewall can do just about anything. One of the fastest devices on the market. Inherent features: 2.4 and 5Ghz wireless, with up to 8 virtual wireless networks, all fully customizable with the ability to m...
  • Cons: Surprisingly I've managed to lock it up a few times while digging deep into the configuration and customizing it; didn't expect that from a device of this class, that's the only reason for the 4 eggs. Service-based features are expensive, but that's no surprise; they are targeted at business use ...

TZ215

Darren A., Newegg
1 August 2012
  • Summary: Caution - Newegg does not make it clear that this is an UPGRADE from previous SonicWall hardware or competing firewall. Luckily I was upgrading from a competing device that was on their list.
  • Pros: Great sales price right now. Seems to work fine. Initial testing, so will update if it changes. Configuration is simpler than previous UTM device (Juniper SSG-5). VPN Setup is easier. Miss some of the higher end routing functions the SSG had, but based on forum postings and pricing was not intere...
  • Cons: If you are using a connection to the internet on WAN port that does not use the default MTU of 1500 (like DSL for instance) the SonicWall device registration will not work and will just seem to stall. Although you will be able to browse internet through web browser. Anyway, the wait time for supp...
