Cons: I purchased two SonicWall TZ215 units for two locations. After installation we found that they slow our Internet connection by around 40%, increase web page load times, streaming videos stall, Etc. and the TZ215 units need to be manually rebooted every few days or we lose Internet access. This is after spending many hours working with SonicWall tech support, updating to the latest firmware and restoring to factory defaults. SonicWall tech support is terrible. They hav...
Summary: I've set up many of these TZ units for small to medium sized businesses as well as for my own network. I've been fortunate to have worked with them many times but they are not for the faint of heart. One unit has 10 VPN tunnels and has had zero issues. Very stable. I wont buy anything else.
Pros: High end UTM firewall that is easy to configure, rock solid VPN performance, and a ton of features.
Cons: Haven't experienced any yet. Not a problem for me but there is no documentation on how to configure these things. Luckily, I've had a lot of experience with them.
Summary: Everything about sonicwall and it's business oriented design is great. You have all the advanced firewall, A/V, intrusion, VPN, support features you would need in a small/medium business environment. Standard firmware and backup profiles across nearly all their appliances means if you can work with one unit, you can work with another in any situation. However with the current firmware there is a fatal flaw.
Pros: Powerful tools, support, design and features
Cons: WiFi support for device and it's extension (Sonicpoint) has a fatal flaw
Summary: Caution - Newegg does not make it clear that this is an UPGRADE from previous SonicWall hardware or competing firewall. Luckily I was upgrading from a competing device that was on their list.
Pros: Great sales price right now. Seems to work fine. Initial testing, so will update if it changes. Configuration is simpler than previous UTM device (Juniper SSG-5). VPN Setup is easier. Miss some of the higher end routing functions the SSG had, but based on forum postings and pricing was not interested in moving to the SRX platform.
Cons: If you are using a connection to the internet on WAN port that does not use the default MTU of 1500 (like DSL for instance) the SonicWall device registration will not work and will just seem to stall. Although you will be able to browse internet through web browser. Anyway, the wait time for support was kinda longer than I am used to (about 15 minutes) for what is an enterprise product, but once on with support, it was resolved with in 10 minutes.
