Excerpt: We take a closer look at Capcom's next big leap. Find out all the goods in our full hands on! With E3 finally dying down and the news letting up it was nice to get the controllers back in our hands for some great game time. First on the agenda was our playable copy of Viewtiful Joe for the Gamecube and what a great return it was.
Excerpt: One of the biggest surprises this generation for Nintendo's GameCube was Capcom's Viewtiful Joe . A highly stylized action game that featured outlandish visual effects, a quirky super hero star and gameplay tweaked to perfection, Viewtiful Joe garnered quite a following. The game's unrelenting popularity has now inevitably lead to a sequel in Viewtiful Joe 2 . Can Joe's new adventure possibly be as exhilarating as his first? Well, let's take a look and see...
Excerpt: There are times when you just can't help but love Capcom for what they do. Yes, there are times (the questionable camera in Dino Crisis 3 or their nasty habit of porting any Street Fighter title to any and all consoles, no matter how old the game is) where you want to strangle someone of importance. But when Capcom does things right, they do it all the way.
Pros: Great stylish look, Fighting never gets old, Addictive yet challenging
Cons: If you're not a brawler fan, you may just want to rent
Conclusion: Viewtiful Joe is definitely a must get for the GCN, because of its wacky side scrolling beat ‘em up action! It adds a whole new factor to the GCN unlike we have ever seen before! With smooth animations and an awesome hero, who wouldn't want to say "Henshin-a-go-go baby!" after playing this game! Well, this wraps up yet another one of my reviews, I hope to see you again soon!
Excerpt: I recently had a discussion with some random Internet person (seriously) about the practice of rehashing in games. Essentially, he/she defended a specific game’s plagiarism by pointing out that very little is original anymore. Though I agree with that sentiment to a degree, I also think there’s a difference between unabashedly ganking someone’s ideas verbatim and combining different aspects with the intention of making something unique and enjoyable.
Summary: Taking the basic elements of platform games
and transforming them with new methods of play, Capcom's brilliant Viewtiful Joe
for the Gamecube is an innovative title that shouldn't be missed. Viewtiful Joe
seems like a conventional title at first, but the game adds slow motion, speed
up and zoom modes to give it a distinct feel. The cartoonish cel-shaded graphics
and funky character designs also add to the experience.
Excerpt: Coming up with fresh fighting games seems to be a difficult task nowadays. Viewtiful Joe is able to overcome this problem by implementing a cool time-based combat system, paired up with unique cel-shaded graphics. The action appears to be rather simple on the outside, but it turns out to be fun and exciting once you learn how to play. There’s plenty of gameplay to keep you coming back for more, even after beating the game.
Excerpt: It’s the morning of May 13, 2003 and E3 is just around the corner. In Los Angeles’s famous Westin Bonaventure Hotel, away from all the pre-show bustle taking place in the LA Convention Center, Capcom is busy showing off upcoming games at their annual pre-E3 producers meeting. Atsushi Inaba, producer of Capcom’s most hotly anticipated title of 2003, Viewtiful Joe , steps forth to begin his presentation.
