Turok: Evolution

Game Ratio
10 February 2004
  • Excerpt: A long overdue addition to a good series. For those of you who aren't familiar with the series, Turok first captured our attention on the Nintendo 64. Its lush, but pixilated, environments left players open to many possible surprise attacks from Velociraptors and other aggressive dinosaurs. Turok 2: Seeds of Evil brought a sense of real twitch to gaming. Real Twitch implies that enemies will react according to where they are shot.

Turok: Evolution

The Next Level
7 November 2002
  • Excerpt: Turok: Evolution is a drastic departure from the direction the series was headed. No more sci-fi, no more aliens, and no more of Joseph, his children, or the original Turok. Instead, Evolution is more like a regression to the series' original aesthetic and a progression into new gameplay mechanics, while keeping enough "Turok" there to remind you of what you're playing.

The Armchair Empire
6 November 2002
  • Conclusion: The action is broken into two parts: regular first-person shooter and 3 rd person pterodactyl flying. Both modes complement each other well and do a great job making you feel part of a larger operation (even though you’re by yourself most of the time). The flying levels do tend to be more difficult (or “challenging” depending on what word you want to use) but the overall level of mastery required of TE isn’t excruciating – which is good because when you die you restart...

Nintendo World Report

  • Summary: Turok is back... and so are his weapons. Take for example the Swarm Bore, which uses a special drilling mechanism to saw through various body parts - including the brain. Yay!
  • Pros: Can be highly exhilerating, Fantastic outdoor levels, Great draw distance, More than 70 levels, Occasionally superb AI
  • Cons: Boring and superficial plot, Generally does not feel finished, Loading times are terrible, Occasionally very poor AI, Plenty of small graphical glitches

Turok Evolution

GamersHell.com
11 September 2002
  • Excerpt: Turok Evolution is a prequel of sorts to all the other Turok titles. It tells the story of Tal' Set and how he came to and saved the lost land. All very epic and mythological, you might think, but it's quite hard to actually figure out what is going on at some points. But as with all great plots it gradually unravels.
