Legend of Zelda, The: The Wind Waker

Into Liquid Sky
3 May 2009
  • Excerpt: The newest installment in the Legend of Zelda series, the first for the Gamecube, has already had a long and contentious history, well before its release here in the states. When screenshots of the game's new cartoony design surfaced, many staunch fans rose up in arms over the stylistic change. Given time, many learned to accept the change.
  • Pros: Awesome graphics package, Great dungeons to explore, Lots of techniques and equipment to use, Tingle Tuner is a nice addition to game
  • Cons: In-game camera can use some work, A little on the easy side

  • Excerpt: The story begins unlike other Zelda games, where Link is straight-out deemed the 'chosen one'...He's just another kid enjoying himself, living peacefully with his sister and grandmother. It's Link's birthday, and as part of an island coming-of-age heritage, he is told to don the classic green suit. While enjoying his time with his sister (and to a much lesser extent, in his new uniform) they spot a huge bird carrying a girl to the summit of the island.

  • Excerpt: The Legend of Zelda series has one of the longest histories in gaming. It is also one of the cornerstones of Nintendo’s franchise collection. All this gives The Wind Waker a heck of a lot to live up to, but does it make the cut?

  • Summary: Despite all the positive and negative comments that have come along with this game since its first screenshots and details where announced overall it comes down to one point - this is pure Zelda. The game is true to it's roots providing fun gameplay with an interesting storyline and plenty of hidden extras to keep even the most avid player happy. The graphical style is very well suited but doesn't truly shine until it's seen in full motion.

Game Over Online

  • Excerpt: The word Zelda means a great deal to a lot of people. It conjures up memories of feeding Dodongos a heaping serving of bomb pie late at night as you scurry about the screen with only a fourth of a health heart left, or opening that original NES game box and staring in awe at the cartridge’s wickedly-awesome gold metallic paint job and just knowing that something special was in store for you at the other end of your control pad.

  • Excerpt: Despite its much-maligned cartoony look and its wide-eyed cherub of a hero, nobody really expected The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker to be a bad game.
