Airship Epic

RPGamer
15 April 2010
  • Excerpt: Airships, floating islands, and the like have been popping up in quite a few RPGs lately, but Skies of Arcadia Legends takes them to the extreme. It features a massive world filled with dozens if not hundreds of floating islands, loads of airships, and a culture centered around them. A young and noble airship pirate, Vyse, quickly finds himself sailing through the skies of this massive world in order to defeat an evil empire.

  • Summary: For a game released a few years ago Skies of Arcadia manages to take the crown of the GameCube's best RPG so far. The future of the GameCube's RPG lineup looks a lot stronger with Final Fantasy from Square-Enix and Namco have a couple in the works but as yet it will be very hard for you to find something better than SoAL.

Skies of Arcadia Legends

Into Liquid Sky
2 March 2005
  • Excerpt: Skies of Arcadia originally came out for the Sega's own Dreamcast in late 2000 - an obvious effort for Sega to have a large, internally-developed RPG that would appeal to those who enjoyed the likes of Suikoden , Final Fantasy and Grandia . Once the Dreamcast was discontinued, Skies of Arcadia followed many other Dreamcast titles (like Resident Evil: Code Veronica , Grandia 2 and Evolution ) in their exodus to the new generation of consoles.
  • Pros: Large adventure with a fun story, Puzzle elements in dungeons is nice, Encounter rate isn't excessive, Bounties and discoveries are a great addition
  • Cons: Battles tend to feel long, Battle system is pretty standard, Not overly deep in terms of story or character depth

  • Excerpt: Do you remember Sega’s Dreamcast? You know, that lovely white and square-shaped toy-box – does that ring a bell? If yes, you might also recall one of the most exciting RPGs ever released on a former “next generation” console – Skies of Arcadia.

  • Excerpt: While normally loath to mention an old game revamped for a new-generation console--in this case, a Dreamcast game now on GameCube-- Skies of Arcadia Legends was an excellent and absorbing Role-Playing Game (RPG) that shouldn't be missed this go around.
