Summary: After seeing the fantastic verions of RE on the Gamecube made so far, I having been waiting for ages to get this classic title. I suppose I should have been slightly sceptical in advance due to the somewhat cheap price. Anyway upon loading, I was gutted to see that this is a carbon-copy of the original Playstation game. Ok, the textures are smoother but otherwise there is NOOOOO difference, so graphically its very shoddy for a GC game.
Take the PS version, change a voice, you have this game.....

Summary: Some might consider this the best out of the Resident Evil series (I don't -- RE2 is better) but as a game alone, it's pretty good. But as a port (and that's all it is) to the GCN, it's a little... underwhelming? Anyone who has played previous versions will instantly feel at home ("chunky" controls, pre-rendered backgrounds, etc.). The story ties in with RE1 and RE2, but progresses past RE2. Anyony who hasn't played these games will be lost in the plot.
